Journaling Reads:
I’ve never had a boy who likes to suck his thumb before and even though everyone likes to warn me about future orthodontist and how I should start looking for cures. Cover it with something spicy but not harmful someone said. And you have managed to infect your thumb twice already which means medicine and gauze and lots convincing you to keep them on, it’s all a lot of a pain but when I watch you, I can see how it calms you down and makes you happy. So go ahead my boy, enjoy every moment of it. I love you.

I used to suck my thumb too and never needed orthodontics.
Love the pretty pink, unusual on a “boy” page but striking.

Hi Karen,
Our little Carmen was a staunch thumb-sucker. It comforted her a lot, so none of us worried about it when she needed it, but I envisioned a HUGE fight or super-crooked teeth in our future. Amazingly, when she went to the dentist when she was about 3 years old, the dentist explained to her that if she continued to suck her thumb, her teeth would be crooked. So she stopped, just like that. A few times when she was going to sleep or she was upset, she’d ask if it was ok if she sucked it for just a minute, and we always told her it was fine, but a minute later, she would pull it out and ask us if her teeth were crooked. Our dentist is a lovely man, and she liked him, it wasn’t that he scared her or anything, but she took what he said to heart, and that’s all it took! Maybe because he talked to her instead of her parents it made more of an impression. I’m sure Nathaniel will find his own way out of it too when the time is right!
