edited: somehow the text for this got mixed up with another book i mentioned. please forgive me. i fixed it.
I was reluctant to pickup The Girl Who Played with Fire after having mixed feelings about the first book. I found the first one to be interesting but long at places and the subject matter was deeply disturbing to me. I wasn’t sure I wanted to read more.
But thanks to my friend Mike’s recommendations I picked up the second one and I am glad I did. This book is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the first one. While the subject and the content is still deeply disturbing, I found the pace to be much better and the character development deeper and more interesting. This one felt more personal. I read it much more quickly and with great interest and anticipation. And I will read the third one at some point.
I’m glad I didn’t give up after the first book.
This has to be THE BOOK. It ranks up there with “the classics”. I sat and read it in three days! I’d clean a room of the house and read a chapter. Do a load of laundry and read another chapter. I could not put it down. I have recommended it to a dozen people and got the same response. This book is totally, utterly amazing. It touches each reader in a different way! Unbelievably well written. Too bad we can’t expect anything more from this author.
I’m reading this now! I love his writing. Too bad these books were published posthumously.
Matt and I were a little late to the Stieg Larsson party, but he is reading this one now and I’ll read it when he finishes! Glad to hear such positive reviews.
elizabeth, my review/thoughts were from a different book. i did like this book a lot but it’s also disturbing in many parts. just wanted to make sure you knew that đŸ™‚
Ah! Well, that’s exactly how I felt about reading this series–and why I was so slow to get to it. I did like the first one even though it was so disturbing, but I wasn’t ready for the next one right away. It’s been some months now, though, so I will read the second one soon : )
