I would have never ever read Lonesome Dove if it weren’t for my book club. And honestly, I read some and listened to some of this super-long book. I honestly didn’t think I was going to like it. Cowboys are not my thing after all.
But I loved it. I really did.
I love the characters, the plot, the way the story weaves around. I wasn’t crazy about the ending but the most important part of a novel, for me, is the characters and these are some fantastic characters. Really leave an impression.
I was also amazed to find that it has some of the most favorable reviews on amazon I’ve ever seen. Many many people consider it their very favorite novel.
how about that? this is why i wanted to join book clubs.
one day i will read this. gordon and i watched the verrry long movie several times and it is superb. i always think the book is better than the movie, so i can only imagine how much i will appreciate the novel!
I watched the movie and then picked up the book in a thrift store, great read!

I first read this book when I was a teenager after watching the mini series on TV with my parents. I re-read it as an adult and it is still one of my favorite novels! It is worth watching the mini series if you can ever catch it being replayed on TV!
I am hoping to sit with my hubby and watch it!
I’ve never read the book, but I remember the mini-series from the 80s. I’ve only ever heard good things about the book, though
I love my bookclub – we’ve been meeting for almost 8 years, and I still get as much excitement from sharing books now as I did then (although I don’t always have the time to finish the book)
I have always wanted to read this! The only McMurtry I have read is Moving On, which is actually the prequel to Terms of Endearment. It’s also very good.
is it long? I think I’ve had enough cowboys for a while π
You may need to wait, then. It’s over 700 pages. Hey, I think you might like The Quiet Book, I reviewed it a week or so ago… π
yeah i need some shorter books right now i think π
