I’ve now done and loved this project for two years. Reading has a special place in my heart. It is and will always be my first love. So for 2012 I decided to continue my “a book a week” goal. Some weeks I won’t get to finish it and that’s ok but I know that I will read a whole lot more if I set this goal.
Here is my current list of 2012 books. They’re not sorted and you’ll see most of them are fiction. Some are young adult. Some are nonfiction. Some are from last year and some are new. I might only read a few on this list or many, it doesn’t matter, the idea is just to have a starting point.

By the way, last year I ended up reading over 70 books and since that’s more than 52, some of them are going to be posted in 2012. I put those in the “Books Read in 2011” category just so I can keep track of when I read each book. Feel free to ignore the tags.
Here’s to another year of high quality reading. As always, if you have suggestions please leave comments. I regularly read the suggested books!
Karen, how do you decide what books to put on your list? Have they been recommended to you? Do you search for certain genres online? I am always on the lookout for good books to read π
I just ask around as much as i can. I am on two book clubs so I have lists from there. And I avidly look at what everyone’s reading everywhere i go π
Good luck on your 2012 reading list, always a good idea.
Just for fun, here are a few comments about the books on your list:
Angle of Repose — I love, love, love Stegner! And holy cow, if you read this in a week I will think you are even more amazing!
1Q84 — One of my librarian friends loved it, another one hated it. I can’t decide when to read it!
Enclave — Waiting for me to pick up from the hold shelf!
The Adoration of Jenna Fox — loved this one! There is a continuation out now, too (The Fox Inheritance)
The Knife of Never Letting Go — Can’t wait to hear if you like it or not!
Moonwalking with Einstein — On the eternal wait list for this one.
History of Love — one of my favorites. If you like it you should also try Everything is Illuminated, which is written by her husband.
A Visit From the Goon Squad — I really liked her book The Keep, and I keep meaning to get to this one but haven’t yet.
The Marriage Plot — sitting in my “read this soon” pile (which is too tall)
Birthmarked — out of the current crop of dystopias, this is my favorite. There’s also a sequel.
Crossed — Ally Condie is coming to my library next Saturday!
The Solitude of Prime Numbers — A very Amy-ish book. I love it…but I hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
The Scorpio Races — I didn’t love her other trilogy but this one is right up my alley!
What I Talk about when I Talk about Running — Turned me into a Murakami fan!
The Magicians — I SOOOO wanted to love this one!
The Night Circus — This will be under the tree for me.
The Loverβs Dictionary —- in my top-ten favorites of 2011
Hope you’ll forgive the ridiculously long comment, but book lists like yours always make me excited! π
woohoo. love love the long comments!!
I did Angle of Repose on audio in the end. IT was unabriged and 33 hours! but i did listen to the whole thing in less than a week, i couldn’t stop π Listening to Moneyball now. Great thing to do while I make art π (next on the list to listen to is Jacob and Zoet)
I am a HUGE Murakami fan .Huge. So I am pretty sure I will love IQ84. Can’t wait to carve out time to read it π
Just finished Enclave. It was ok. Not bad but nothing amazing imho. Reading Jenna Fox right now, liking it so far π
π if you have other recommendations, i’d love to hear them!!! I am always looking for good books!!! I loved Sisters and several other recommendations by you!
uhm i think it was actually called sister. right?
I’m also an avid reader and am on book 102 for 2011. I loved Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand. Didn’t like Jacob de Zoet, but don’t let me discourage you. I’m going to put some of your list on my to-read list. Another great place to get reviews is on Good Reads on the computer. Also NPR puts out a book review every week.
I go to Good Reads often! π I didn’t know about NPR reviews tho, I will check them out, thank you!! what did you not like about Zoet may I ask? Just curious. π
I LOVE your list….I am an avid reader, but have never kept track like this! I am now going to make a list for 2012….and I will shoot for a book a week! Thanks
oh if u post it anywhere send me a link ok?? i’d love to see it so i can get ideas too!
