As part of my sketching each morning, I’ve begun to collect images from some of my favorite poems. This got me thinking about poems I like. I’ve always wished I understood and knew more poetry but my education in that area is poor.
Here are some of the poems I love:
One Art by Elizabeth Bishop
The Red Wheelbarrow by William Carlos Williams
This Is Just to Say by William Carlos Williams
Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost
The Secret Sits by Robert Frost
Fire and Ice by Robert Frost
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost
Funeral Blues by W. H. Auden
i carry your heart with me by e. e. cummings
I love pretty much anything by Shel Silverstein and I have a little book of poems by Jean Little which I cherish and adore.
I used to love The Road Not Taken by Frost, too but we recently read about this poem and it changed the whole meaning for me so I am not sure where I stand with it at this point.
What about you? do you have poems you love? I’d love to discover new ones. One of these days I should take a class on poetry just so I can expand my knowledge.
I am smitten with Thomas Merton lately and I am always head-over-heels with ee cummings.
I think that poetry soaks in to our bones and helps us see the world with freshness.

Robert Lewis Stevenson; love his work.

In September I wrote this post of my favorite poems: http://tttreaders.blogspot.com/2011/09/hard-choices.html
I love your choices as well. Jean Little wrote my favorite novel from childhood, “Look Through My Window.” I’ve never heard anyone else mention her. Will have to seek out the poems!
Lastly—I’ve always wanted to do a vision board, but struggle with the same issues (anti-clutter, no magazines, and the glue…). Hope you won’t mind if I lift your pininterest idea. I think it’s brilliant. I’ve already done all the collecting there so it makes since to create a layout. I’m thrilled to finally make one! Thank you.
i love that post. I will have to check the book by Jean Little. I was introduced to her by my college roommate who is canadian. I love her so I imagine i will love the book. I found she has a another book of poems too which also looks wonderful.
thank you so much for your kind words! 🙂
I think I freaked my bookclub out by sharing a link to our blog! But I’m so glad you liked the poem. Let me know if you can’t find the book—I searched to find a copy as an adult and would be happy to share mine with you if it’s unavailable.
