Art Journaling – Moleskine Sketch – Week 5

And here are some more journal pages.

A relatively simple page but the colors are a bit too dark for me. Uses mostly pan pastels and Shiva paintstiks. It says “Choose to Love without Conditions.”

This one is really simple but I wanted to learn how to draw tulips so I just followed a tutorial I found online. It uses the watercolor pencils and some watersoluble oil pastels. Says “Stop to smell the flowers.”

This one uses several Crafter’s Workshop templates, pan pastels, and rubons. Says “Do not wait or hesitate to reach out.”

Another one that just uses pan pastels and Crafter’s Workshop templates. The line is from a Jewel song and it says “You already are what you hope to be.”

And finally the last page for this week uses some 7gypsies tissue paper, acrylic inks, stamps, the deer is from Sassafrass Lass I think and the corrugated pieces are from Jillibean Soup I think. It says “Life is Absolutely Magnificent. Enjoy it.”

That’s the five for this week. More coming next week. Thank you for letting me share.

I am creating art journaling pages daily for June (and maybe longer). You can read more about it and the book I am using here.

Karen these are stunning, totally wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing these with us. I need to paint with you, going to hop on a plane and come for a painting play date!!!

So beautiful – thank you for sharing your talent!

I would LOVE it if you would put together a video showing your process on a page or two or more. I am especially interested in the work you do with pan pastels. But any of them would be great!

hmm you’ll laugh but i sort of stopped this week. l’ve tried to video before but setting it up properly doesn’t seem to work out for me. I will give it one more try very soon ok?

    • karenika

yep. i was trying some other mediums for a bit. though last night i used them again. i mostly use them for color though not for blending or creating art with them directly. what did you want me to show specifically?

      • Kelly

Honestly I would be thrilled with anything you showed me. :). But I think I would most love to see you make the layers with stencils and other products. Your art has so much depth to it. The pinkish orange page you showed the first week you showed pan pastels, for example. And the yellow Melody Ross-ish page. I would also love to see you use the Liquitex inks as you did on the bottom page. The layers are just so gorgeous!

Do you prep your pages with gesso? How about the weekly art journal pages?

    • karenika

the weeklong art pages are on watercolor paper and i don’t prep them since i mostly use watercolors on them. i can’t remember 100% but I don’t think I’ve covered any with gesso. for these pages, it depends on what i do on top. for panpastels, i don’t prep. for the watercolor pencils and the shiva paintstiks i do.
