Healthy For Life – Week 7

Ok well I am not sure I can say anything good about a week where I gained weight instead of losing it. When I first got on the wii, it said I’d gained four lbs! I almost fell over. I did it again a little later in the day and it corrected itself to half a pound. Which is still terrible and it does not inspire confidence in the consistency of the wii but all in all, it’s obvious that the scale did not go in the right direction this week..

I know muscle weighs more, weight loss is not a sign of health, blah blah. Fact is, a good part of this journey is first to lose the excess fat. So I can then tone up the rest of my body and keep it healthy. Alas, I am still on track. Right after the scale this morning, I went and exercised instead of eating chocolate or crying. I was just mad. I am going to keep going of course. There’s definitely progress here. Just slow sometimes and that’s ok. I have 10 more months after this.

I bought three things this time so I will have to use them for January and February. One is the jacket in the photo. I then bought a skirt and a shirt, too. I will take pictures of me wearing them since I couldn’t find a company photo for either. Anyhow, another week of working hard.
and here’s this week’s card:

hey karen…a pound is a pound silly. 🙂 fat or muscle it’s all a pound…BUT, muscle is lean and dense..have you ever seen a 10lb. slab of FAT vs. 10lb. of lean muscle? HUGE difference!! much better to go by how your clothes fit and feel versus the numbers on the scale!! 😉

  • I am also really obsessed with my scales but instead of weighing myself 2 times a day I do it twice a month, always on the same day and when I get up. Weight varies a lot during the day and also during our monthly cycles. It is frustrating at times but I know I am exercising and eating well and I wanted to have a more healthier lifestyle and that is the case. If I loose some more weight that would be tremendous but I think I have come to a point where I can go no lower. My body has reached its “target weight” . Keep up exercising and eating well. Forget the scales from time to time.

  • Hi Karen,

Continue to be kind to yourself and remember this important tid bit: you can weigh yourself 3 times a day and get 3 different weights. Hang in there and check it again next week. If you’re walking, moving and eating better – you are WINNING! 🙂

  • Ah, this weight thing. It is such a struggle for so many of us (myself included). I’ve actually started reading “The Abs Diet for Women”, and find it makes a lot of sense. It’s not really a “diet”, more of a way to eat. And it really focuses on gaining muscle. Looking forward to following your journey!

  • Hi Karen,
I really enjoy reading your blog and have gone back and read several posts in your archive.
Where did you get this beautiful jacket?
