A Book a Week – The Maze Runner

The Maze Runner was scheduled for my young adult book club. Even though it’s a mixture of genres I don’t usually read: young adult and science fiction, I loved it and read the whole thing in one day.

It was an easy, interesting read. Not a huge amount of character-development as it’s mostly plot-driven. But enough character to keep me rooting and interested the whole time.

My only quip about it is that even though you find out some things at the end, you don’t get the whole story because this is planned to be a trilogy so the author is saving the rest for the next book. Which I understand.

And yet I still resent having to wait.

  • James Dashner is from Utah and last summer, when our library was doing a fantasy-based teen summer reading, he came and spoke. He was, well, I’m dating myself but no other word will describe him: cool.

I haven’t read this yet but my two sons have and they both loved it!

really?? that’s so cool!! I really enjoyed the book quite a bit and read the second one, too. he said all the answers come in the third so now i am anxiously awaiting the third. i’ve never really read young adult before but i’ve been enjoying the genre lately. i attempted the zombie book you wrote about but couldn’t get into it (only read like 5 pages, will try again) but now I’m reading the NYT Mag recommendation: Matched. so far so good.

I’m a high school English teacher, and I love young adult literature. Of course, some books are better than others. I will put this book on my wish list.
