about ten weeks ago, i started a pottery class. here are all my pots, in order of creation. talented or pathetic? you decide.

pot #1: you may not be able to tell but this pot is totally crooked. skewed to the right. it also has a small crack on the bottom, but the crack isn't all the way through. the glazes are purple opalescence in the inside and mauve on the outside.

pot #2: ahem. shapeless. and ugly. the glazes are wonder tan on the inside and pipe brown outside.

pot #3: since this pot has a small mouth and top i had to throw a chuck to be able to trim it. no fun. you can't tell but the glaze is kinda funny on the edges and i have a brown smear on one side. the colors are floating blue on the outside and purple ope on the inside, tho you can't see the inside color at all.

pot #4: i was so excited after i threw this pot. the inside was pretty and it wasn't skewed, it wasn't crooked. so, of course, it cracked. all the way through. it has purple ope glaze in the inside which is supposed ot be good at filling in cracks but as you can see it didn't work too well. the outside has wonder tan with pipe brown edges.

pot #5: i start using white clay. i like this piece, it's kind of cute. it has wonder tan on the inside and mauve on the outside, tho you can see a spot where i seem to have mixed in some blue accidentally. this glaze has a funny look on white clay, it gives the pot a vainy look. i also forgot to put wax on the bottom and scrape a bit of the glaze and as you can see the glaze dripped and my vase got stuck and they chipped some of the bottom off while trying to get it off the kiln.

pot #6: this is actually my first white clay piece. which might or might not explain why it's so ugly. if the bottom weren't as awful as it is, it might have looked slightly better. but even then, it's crooked and oddly shaped. in a not-nice way. to top it off, the glaze turned out disgusting. i tried to do floating blue on the inside and wonder tan on the outside. usually, wonder tan is beautiful but on white clay, it turns out this puke yellow. or so i found it after i glazed it. oh well.

pot #7: and finally my masterpiece. this is the only piece i have that isn't crooked and i wanted to make sure it gets glazed well. so i asked a classmate for help on the trimming and my teacher helped me with the glazing. and i think it actually turned out nice! it's white clay with floating blue, dipped really quickly, on the outside and a mish mosh of glazes in the inside. the bottom is hard to read but it says karen 2001.

feel free to let me know what you think of them.
