Review: The Creative Act: A Way of Being

The Creative Act: A Way of Being
The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

so many people i love loved this book. I think parts of it are great and maybe it really should not be listened to on audio but I think the audio is not as good as I wish it were and parts of it really made me upset. So I am giving this a 3.5 and rounding up.

Review: Wolf Hollow

Wolf Hollow
Wolf Hollow by Victoria Houston
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I checked out this book at least 20 times before I finally read it. I liked it fine but somehow I think small town, cozy mystery is not my thing. It was ok just not as interesting as I would have liked. I think i would have enjoyed watching this as a movie though.

The Last Love Note
The Last Love Note by Emma Grey

This was touching and sweet (and don’t you love that cover!) but somehow it left me a little empty. I am not sure I can put my finger on the why and I am still glad I read it.

This was intense, and hard to read at times. but it was really well written and a fascinating story. I love redemption stories and I am so so glad it worked out well for the author.

3.5 stars

I loved this idea of a lost bookshop and i loved both storylines. I think it was a tough week for me so i wasn’t paying as much attention as i could have so some of it didn’t connect for me but I still loved it.

Watercolor Your Way: Techniques, Palettes, and Projects To Fit Your Skill Level and Creative Goals
Watercolor Your Way: Techniques, Palettes, and Projects To Fit Your Skill Level and Creative Goals by Sarah Cray
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love Sarah Cray’s art. I love the way this book is organized so it can meet you where you are, at any skill level and it gives you light and easy exercises and slowly ramps up to more and more complicated ones. I love that the supplies also ramp up with your level of experience. I’ve never seen a book structured this way and I really loved it. It’s a book you can come back to again and again as you learn more and want to keep challenging yourself and want to keep growing and having fun.

A Woman’s Guide to Inner Child Healing: Overcome Trauma, Recognize Your Feelings, Learn to Let the Past Go, and Become the Best Version of Yourself by Gloria Zhang
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have never done inner child work and I wanted to for a long time so I was curious to see what this book would recommend. It’s broken into three parts and while not all of it spoke to me, I really liked all the exercises and I ended up doing 20 pages of journaling as a result of answering all her prompts. I also loved her honesty, humor and examples. If, like me, you haven’t done a ton of work but were curious I think you will like this book.

This was light and fun. It’s been a stressful few months so I’ve been enjoying lighter reads that distract me but don’t take too much of my energy. Loved this one.

Review: The Memo

The Memo
The Memo by Rachel Dodes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 stars rounded up.

I really liked the concept of this story about a woman who goes back to her college reunion to discover that there indeed was a memo on how to be successful in life and she missed out on it the first time around. I also love time travel-y stories so I knew I’d like this one. And it mostly didn’t disappoint. Some parts of it were a little over the top and too much for me, but most of it was enjoyable and I liked the concept a lot!

Review: Rules for Second Chances

Rules for Second Chances
Rules for Second Chances by Maggie North
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I loved this second chance story of Liz and Tobin. I really enjoyed the juxtapositioning of improv on both her career goals and on their relationship. I loved several of the side characters and I also loved how much Tobin loved his wife. It was a touching story that had funny moments. It was the kind of romance where you see where it’s going and you’re rooting for them fully.
