A rough week for Jake this week. Just a lot of work and trying to get everything organized and all the loose ends coordinated. Things are going to get easier. We just need to be patient and try to do one thing at a time. Which is always hard. He helped me so much on Thursday by sitting at home with the kids so I could go to the office and get a ton of work done. I look forward to more of that.

This was awesome! I decided on Monday night while I was journaling that things would only start getting better at work if I decided to show up and do it. I shouldn’t wait until I feel more in sync. I do it and then things work out. And that’s exactly what happened. I showed up. I did the work. It got better. I was inspired. I did more work. Magic! My BPC class started this week, too. Finding Your Way. I am super-excited about it. Feeling positively great this week.

David was off school all week. Winter Break. He spent his days playing with his legos, reading books with me, doing workbooks, writing his gratitudes, reading to me, and playing with Nathaniel. He’s been really happy. As much as I love school, I really really love having him around. I get to sleep a bit more, he helps with Nathaniel so much and he’s such a joy to have around. I will be sad when he goes back to school next week.
nathaniel
Nathaniel has also been really happy to have David around. He’s been playing with his brother and watching him all week long. They laugh and shriek together. He loves to look through David’s books. He’s also been more vocal. He says “me” now when he wants something. He also started screaming much to my dismay. I am hoping it’s a short phase and he will abandon it soon because I don’t think I can stand it.

I gave this story five stars because it was funny because they washed themselves in the water fountain. I thought it was funny that they stuck their dirty laundry in their pockets and wore it.
I liked both Claudia and Jamie because they talked to each other in a funny way (the royal way). I didn’t like that they ran away from home because it’s sad to do that because your parents are worried that you ran away.
My favorite part was when they got the sketch of the Angel because Claudia really wanted to know the truth and she got to find it out. I like Mrs. Frankweiler, too, because she shared her secret with Claudia and Jamie.
I think it was cool that they found the M under the statue and wrote a letter to the museum head. I also loved the happy ending!

Long week for Jake, lots of interviewing candidates and working long hours. He’s been working from early morning to late afternoon. And then he comes home and spends time with both kids. He and David have been watching lots of Star Wars lately and it’s one of David’s favorite things. He looks forward to his time with Daddy all day long. Nathaniel, too, has been a big fan, he keeps coming to the computer and saying “daddy” until I show him photos of all four of us so he can see his dad.
karen
This week was a long week for me both at work and personally. But I’ve accomplished much and now I have a three day weekend to rest. My jaw’s been hurting and I’ve had several eye migraines this week. But I still kept exercising and I’ve spent lots of time with the kids. I went to David’s school to volunteer and now he’s got no school for a week. I very much look forward to some more time with him. He’s such a joy to have around.
david
David had a good week at school. It started with Valentine’s Day and a big party, then he went to the other school for a shadow day and then ended his week with a playdate. He’s now on vacation for a week and playing with his legos, on the computer, and Wii of course. We’re also planning to get back on schedule with our workbooks this week. We’ve been slacking a bit there and this is a good time to get reorganized.

Nathaniel is enjoying the little iPod I gave him. I love it even more because it means I don’t have to have the TV on all day long. The Thomas obsession was getting annoying on the TV whereas I don’t mind it at all when it’s on the small ipod with no sound. And he forgets about it for hours when he’s just looking at books of Thomas. He flips page after page and points out all the trains, cars, and balls. He’s also getting even more vocal and specific in his needs. My little boy is growing up so much and so quickly.

Today is my sister Yona’s 40th birthday. I am so sorry that I cannot be there to give her a huge hug and be there to celebrate with her. So I wanted to make her a list of 40 reasons why I love her so much. They are not in any order and I can easily think of hundreds more so this is just a tiny subset of the world of reasons I am thankful she’s my sister. She’s amazing and I am truly lucky to have her in my life.
40 Reasons Why I love you so:
- I love that you taught my kids how to blow kisses and catch them
- I love that you save all your boys’ toys so mine can play with them, too
- I love that you spend hours playing with my sons, even over the internet
- I love that you cook us delicious meals when you visit!
- I love that you are always honest with me
- I love that you never forget any of my special occasions, you always check in, follow up and you never ever make me feel alone.
- I love that you taught me how to read. The best present I got in my life.
- I love that you always tell me how proud you are of me.
- I love that you read my blog. You even comment!
- I love that you are dedicated to making sure our kids are close to each other and we are close to each other’s kids.
- I love that you are always patient with me.
- I love that you do not judge me because I am so different and you love me just the way I am.
- I love that you inspire me so much with your self-confidence.
- I love that you are always so genuine and I can feel your love so deeply.
- I love that you call my husband your brother. He loves you so!
- I love that you listen to me complain about the same worries for hours and always reassure me.
- I love that you are so organized and work so well with mom, I am amazed and inspired by everything you two have accomplished.
- I love that you make sure your kids know the importance of education and studying. You’ve probably done more homework with them than when you were a kid!
- I love that you always believe in me.
- I love that each time I visualize your face, you always have such a big smile that it travels all the way to your eyes. Just thinking of you makes me happy.
- I love that you are patient and kind to mom and dad and me.
- I love that even though you always say you can’t think of good ideas, you’re the one who came up with all the amazing ideas like roses with sentiments to mom and dad, the videotape for dad, the site for mom, etc.
- I love that besides reading, you also gave me my second all-time-favorite present, the book. I cherish, love and adore that book you gave me even though it makes me cry every single time.
- I love that you support my scrapbooking and always encourage me.
- I love that you save and collect and beg for scraps of fabric just so you can get them for me. You are so kind and generous and loving.
- I love that when I asked you for some trinkets and beads, you did your typical Yona thing and ended up buying me drawers full of amazing things and sent me a huge box. You love to spoil me.
- I love that you taught everyone in your family the love of skiing so it’s something you can all do together now. You’ve always been so good at sports. (Unlike your little sister.)
- I love that you love taking pictures almost as much as I do.
- I love that you always, always look out for me.
- I love that you make sure I don’t miss anything even though I am so far away. You always send me videos, copies of presentations, family events, and make a point of making me feel included.
- I love that you and I can spend an entire day just talking.
- I love that you are your own person. You have taught me to be stronger.
- I love that you like learning and taking lessons just like me. Languages, candle making. I so wish we could take them together.
- I love that you took the time to come visit me so we could spend some time together just you and me. You’re always amazing like that.
- I love that you’ve always been by my side. All the cards and letters you sent me when you were away and then when I was away and all the emails and Skypes now. Even though we’ve spent more moments apart than together, I haven’t felt your absence once.
- I love that you are such an amazing mom. From the very first moment, you were comfortable with being pregnant and then raising twin boys. You always showed me that it is not as scary as I worried it would be. You have two amazing sons and that’s due, in large part, to their amazing mom.
- I love that you always put your family first.
- I love that you never forget to do what’s right. Invitations, obligations, thank yous. You’re so much better than anyone I know.
- I love that you and I will be sisters forever. I am so thankful.
- I love you so much canim ablacim. You are my role model, my solid, strong, confident sister thanks to whom I will never ever feel alone in the world. I am so thankful to have you and I love you so so so much. I am so sorry I am not there with you right now but my heart is with you, always.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY YONA!!! I LOVE YOU!
David says:
I gave this story three stars because it was a sad book because the witch was turning people into stone and she tried to kill Aslan.
I loved Aslan because he was nice and the saved all the people who were made into stone. He sacrificed himself for Edmund and then he died and then didn’t die because he came back. I like Santa because he gave them presents. I like Peter because he had a sword and he was brave and killed the monster. I like Edmund because he killed the witch in the end. And I like that they became kings and queens.
I didn’t like the witch because she turns people into stone and she tricked Edmund and was going to kill him. I also didn’t like the dwarf because he handcuffed Edmund.
But I liked that it was a happy ending!

Jake had a long week this week. A lot of early mornings coupled with afternoon meetings. But the week is over and next week promises to be quieter for him. He’s been happy and excited and optimistic for most of the week and it always makes me happy to see him so happy. His positive attitude is always contagious.
karen
I feel like I’ve had a relatively long and unproductive week. This week went faster than I would have wished and there wasn’t enough downtime during the weekend to catch up on the balls I dropped during the week. And next week looks even more stressful with two trips to David’s school, a playdate, a visit to another school, and a day with no school. And then there’s class chat, etc. Not to mention work which promises to be hectic and stressful. But, of course, it will all turn out ok and I have lots of faith. I am always grateful.
david
David turned six this week. Six years old. I cannot believe it. He’s been so wonderful, too. He was excited to be center of attention at school and have us come and read. He was excited to get a lego set he loves and he’s really excited about his party tomorrow. He’s been happy and thankful and appreciative and not one bit spoiled about anything. I am so thankful for his kind heart and thankful attitude. I hope it continues through the years. I also hope his party goes well and he has a really good time.
nathaniel
I introduced Nathaniel to David’s ipod this week so he could watch Thomas while I watched my own TV or turned off the big TV altogether. He’s quickly learned where the lock button is and can turn it off just fine. He has yet to master anything else though so he always takes it off Thomas and then cries to get it back. He does love having it with him though and I love not having to deal with the choices the Google TV version gave him and all the frustrations that came with him changing his mind every five seconds.

David says:
I liked that Ralph got a sports car and it was nice for Brad to give it to him. I also liked that the paper fixed the lie they told the first time around. I like that Matt scared the relatives away so they left Ralph alone.
I didn’t like when Brad broke the motorcycle by mistake. He didn’t mean to do it and I like that he apologized.
My favorite characters were Ralph, Brad and Ryan. I also like Matt. I like Ryan because he took Ralph to school when he asked him to. I like Brad because he gave Ralph the sports car. I like Matt because scared the relatives away so they left Ralph alone. I like Ralph because he was trying to make sure Matt didn’t lose his job.
And I loved the ending because Ryan’s mom married Brad’s dad and they became brothers!

Jake had a big week at work this week. Many big and small changes coming our way. I must admit that I am quite scared but also very excited and happy for him. He’s been happy and relaxed all week, despite having to go to bed quite late and wake up at 3:30am every single day. He’s so amazing. I can never understand how he does it. We’ve been getting quite a lot of us-time this week, too, which I love.
karen
I’m tired. That’s the most appropriate sentence this week I think. CHA was wonderful but emotionally and physically tiring. So I need to rest. But work’s been hectic and Jake’s parent are visiting and so I just continue to feel behind and tired and worn out. Things will improve, I am sure. In the meantime I am proud that I continue to chug through and do my art, exercise and read to my kid. I just try to take it one day at a time.
david
David had a pretty good week at school this week. He came home happy every day and got a lot of “I like you” instagrams from his classmates. He is going to be six next week. I cannot believe how quickly time is passing. He is a champion reader now and spells amazingly well as well. At least when he’s with me. I think we need to focus on math for a while so he can be completely comfortable with that as well. I am just thankful that he’s doing well, being good and kind to others, and in general trying his best. I am so proud of him.
nathaniel
Nathaniel is still all about the choo-choo but now he’s more demanding and wants a specific one. He’s speaking like a champ. Repeats so many words. I am not sure how great the concept comprehension is but his vocabulary and ability to speak is already way above and beyond anything David did at his age. Which hopefully means he will not have the same speech issues David did. He still continues to be super-cute and giggles and smiles all the time. And his voice is like an angel. Makes you want to hug him pretty much all day long.

David says:
I liked this book because the little mouse saved the princess. I think it was wrong to have soup be illegal so I am glad that at the end it wasn’t illegal.
I didn’t like that they stole the princess because that’s mean and bad. I also didn’t like that they chopped off the mouse’s tail. I also didn’t like that Mig got hit in the ears so often.
My favorite characters were Despereaux and the princess. The mouse was nice and brave and the princess was kind to everyone. My least favorite characters were the rats, the brother, Roscuro, and Botticelli because they were all mean. The two rats lied and tricked people.
But I did like the ending because no one died and I love how Despereaux and the princess ended up friends in the end!

Things are still going great for Jake. He’s in a good mood, working hard and long but not in a bad mood. He got to go to the Crunchies and even meet with a few friends this week. All this will hopefully prepare him well for a weekend alone with the boys. I expect they will have a ton of fun together.
karen
This week was mostly rest and recuperation for me. I did a little scrapping over the weekend but spent most of the rest of the time journaling and doing homework in my classes. I have been doing a lot of soul work and I am really thankful for it and feel that the results have been astoundingly positive. I am trying to rest because the next few weeks promise to be hectic. I’m also excited about CHA and seeing some good friends. I am nervous about leaving this kids but I know they are in solid hands and look forward to a bit of me-time.
david
David’s been doing well. He’s making progress and still reading books with me and still enamored with the computer and the iphone and all kinds of games. He’s been reading a lot on the computer and we’re still reading together daily. I didn’t do a lot of workbooks with him this week but we’ve both been more patient with each other and kinder so I am hoping things are going to get better (mostly on my end since I am the one who needs to work on having more patience.)
nathaniel
Nathaniel is talking more and more and expressing his opinions more and more. He’s sweet as ever and looks up to his brother like nobody’s business. He plays with anything David plays with. Sits with him while he plays and watches him on the computer. Just likes to be near him. I love watching that. He loves when David makes him laugh. He went to the dentist this week and thankfully everything is good so far (despite a major meltdown at the dentist and not letting the hygienist clean anything.)

David says:
I like this book because the mouse rides the motorcycle and that’s funny and cool. My favorite part was at the end when Keith gave Ralph his motorcycle to keep.
What I didn’t like was that Ralph broke his promise to Keith and ended up losing the motorcycle. I really liked it when they found the motorcycle and gave it back to Keith. (and they found the ambulance too!)
I liked the part where Ralph tricked the dog and made him bark so he could go downstairs. And I really liked when Ralph gave Keith the aspirin.
My least favorite part was when the teachers trapped him under the cup and then put him on the vines outside. And the best part was when Keith brought all of them room service, cause that’s so nice!

Second week back to work and Jake’s still doing great. Relaxed and optimistic. I love seeing Jake at his best. He’s such a joy to have around. So wise, calm, kind. He’s making quite a collection of friends in the area as well. Another thing he’s great at. I’m so thankful for him.
karen
I am finally done with the CHA work. That’s basically occupied most of my moments since the year started. I finished all my layouts, I photographed everything and I am now ready. One week before I get to fly out and see all my work in person. I am sad about leaving the kids but excited to go. Now I can play catch up on everything else I’ve been dropping on the floor.
david
David’s been moodier than usual this week. He can be ver pessimistic and difficult sometimes but then just when I worry, his wonderful, happy self comes out and wins me all over again. I’ve decided I need to work on the way I talk to him. Sometimes I get impatient and say meaner things than I ever intend to, just to get his attention. I don’t want to threaten him or punish him unless he’s truly being unkind. So I need to find other ways to communicate and I need to learn to be more patient with him. He’s just six after all.
nathaniel
Nathaniel’s had a good week for the most part. He’s talking more and more and he’s definitely a lot more sure about what he wants and finds creative ways to communicate it. He was grabbing my fingers to point at things all week. He went to his first dentist appointment this week. He was too sad and wiggly to get any cleaning but he got a clean bill of health so far. He’s still into the Thomas but he’s getting more patient about letting me watch my own thing sometimes. He is so cute and loves his brother so much and imitates him all the time. He’s also still carrying the blanket around everywhere. He’s lucky he’s so cute because we let him do anything.
