David says:
I gave this story five stars because I love Opal had a nice dog who always smiled at her and she didn’t have any other friends so it was nice for her to have Winn-Dixie.
I really liked Otis and how he played his guitar and how all the animals liked it and sat very still to listen to it. I liked that Opal apologized from Dunlap for calling him bald-headed babies.
I thought her Dad was nice to let her have a dog and kind to go looking for him with Opal for so long when they thought it was lost. I also thought it was sad that he cried.
I liked the party in the end because she invited all her friends and you could see that she had a lot of friends by the end of the book. And I liked how that helped her be a little less sad about her Mommy not being around.

Jake came back from Washington D.C. and went right into a whirlwind of meetings. He was out every single night this week for meetings, classes and other obligations. He spent his days making presentations and working with his interns. He also took David to swim class and to soccer class. He helped me with some of my crazy time by taking the kids and playing with them and I am deeply grateful for that.

This week was a quiet one at work. I tried to make sure to keep everything as low key as possible in my life. I also realized that my daily todo list items are getting a bit overwhelming for me and I need to rearrange things or reset some of my expectations from myself. Especially over the summer since both kids will be at school in the fall and I really want to make the most of these summer days together. Mental note to self: redo daily schedule so you have more room to relax, cuddle, and play.
david
David had all of his classes this week but it was quieter than last week since Lego camp was over and his friend is now gone for the summer. So he spent most of his time playing with legos, the computer, his workbooks and Nathaniel. He discovered the camera on the iPhone this week too and took a ton of pictures at home and on our walks. He also made notes on the notebook app and found creative ways to entertain himself. He is being really kind and sweet and I am very proud of him.

Nathaniel is super-active lately and talks more and more. He’s now making two-word sentences like “truck fell” or “food done” or “mama eat.” And since we never really had these milestones with David, it feels so new to me and I really love experiencing them with him. He’s gotten really into Bob the Builder this week and has been watching YouTube movies with me and loving them.

David says:
I gave this story five stars because I love that the pig and the spider became friends and that there were more spider friends later in the book.
I thought it was really sad that Charlotte died. But I liked that she had new babies coming and that Wilbur got to live.
I liked the beginning where Fern saved Wilbur and fed him with a bottle. And I liked that she came to visit him everyday and was friends with the animals in the barn.
Even though Templeton was sort of mean, it was nice that he did a lot of favors for both Wilbur and Charlotte. I liked the part where the little goslings hatched. I thought it was wonderful that Charlotte tried to save the pig’s life and the pig saved all of her children. And I liked that he won the medal and how they were best friends.

Jake worked hard all week to get things in order before his trip to D.C. We spent a bunch of time together working on his paperwork and some of his technical setup. Preparing the website, etc. He’s also been working with the interns and getting them set up and working on finding new office space, etc. Busy but good which is exactly how I hope all of his weeks go.

It was a relatively full but uneventful week for me. I spent a lot of time carting David back and forth between Lego camp and his several classes and home. I also worked a whole bunch and did a bunch of art as always. I finally started on my Soul Restoration book as well and have been spending a lot of time painting it and embellishing it and making it my own. I love and adore the class.
david
David had his first full week of summer. He spent every morning at Lego camp and then also had swim class and soccer class last week. Thankfully, he loved all of them. When he wasn’t in class, he spent time with our neighbor Ece who just left for her summer trip abroad. He also did some Legos on his own and got some new puzzle books for the summer. And reading books, of course. He’s been having fun and we’re working together on things I want to do for my life which are paying attention to the good and living with joy.

Nathaniel is also had his first class last week. His music class started and I think he liked it ok. He spent the whole class playing with all the instruments and listening to the music. He also has been talking more putting two-three-word sentences together and speaking his mind more often. While he can be frustrating at times, it’s wonderful to see his progress in this area especially after our journey with David. He and I read a bedtime story every night now and we play games before he lies down for the night.

David says:
I gave this story five stars because I thought it was cool that they got a machine to do their homework.
I didn’t like Snitcher because he always told on them and he broke the computer. I liked that Danny gave him a knife with snitcher carved on it at the end.
I thought it was cool that they fed all the information into the computer and that it could then write reports for them. The first invention where you had two pens writing at the same time was cool too because it made a copy for someone else as well. Of the three kids, I liked Danny the most because all the creative ideas were his.
I thought it was nice of Joe to write a poem for Irene but I didn’t like that Danny got jealous of it. But it did help Joe and Irene make up which I liked.

Jake had a busy but good week. He put a job call for interns last week and interviewed several for a few days. He finally settled on two that impressed him the most and put them to work. They’ve all been going to work early and keeping busy. We’ve also worked together a bunch this week. He has long lists of tasks and paperwork and documents to sign and clients to follow up with, all of which is a part of working for yourself. Coding, dealing with clients, managing interns, etc. When it’s your company, you do it all.

This was ok for me. I had some jaw pain earlier in the week and I also had some rougher days but I also had some wonderful moments. I did a lot of art. Some sound soul searching thanks to Soul Restoration 2 and a lot of sketching portraits. Work was productive, as well. I pushed a dev channel late last week and started working on the next one. Since it’s officially summer now, I’m working on a plan to balance our new schedule so I can be productive and still spend quality time with both kids.
david
David finished Kindergarten last week. He had several events at school, brought back a bag full of art and projects and an excellent report card. I am so proud of him as he’s performing above grade level on almost everything and he’s also socially well-rounded and a pleasure to have in class according to the teacher’s notes. We do have some rough patches of course but he’s working on it and he’s done really well for his first real year of school.
nathaniel
Nathaniel has been spending a lot of time drawing at his table which is set right next to mine. He’s also making longer word combinations now like “big truck” and understanding so much more. He loves kicking balls around and hugging us all and stealing anything David leaves lying around, and he loves having David home.

David says:
I gave this story five stars because it was cool that Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle could cure everything.
My favorite story was the Waddle-I-Doers because they find a treasure in that one and I liked that they found six of them because it meant Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle could have money for a long time. I also thought the Never-Want-To-Go-To-Schooler story was funny because Jody got dumber and started speaking funny. I also thought it was funny that he couldn’t count higher than three. The bad-table-manners cure story was silly because the pig sat with the boy. I thought the Thought-You-Saiders Cure was the silliest of them all because the kids thought of funny responses and I liked them all.
I thought the whole book was really silly because all the cures Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle had were over the top. There wasn’t a story I didn’t like.

Jake had a relatively uneventful week this week. Just a bunch of paperwork, meetings, and checking off todo list items. He’s been working a lot and setting up appointments. He’s also been around to help with the kids a lot and they are so happy to have him around. It’s a highlight for me to see all the joy in their faces.

This week is officially art journaling week for me. I have started and I cannot stop. I don’t know what’s going on but I am loving and cherishing making all the pages I’ve been working on this week. Maybe it was because I got some wonderful supplies to play with or it was just that something finally clicked. I am not sure but it’s definitely been the focus of my week. Other than that there’s been a lot of being tired and back pain, so we’ll focus on the art since it’s much more fun.
david
David is almost done with school. He had a breakfast in class this week where they sang to all the parents and each of the kids got their Kindergarten graduation documents and their memory book. It has photos of David in the classroom from the whole year and a lot of his work month by month. I am so proud of all that he’s learned this year and I cannot believe he’s going to be in first grade soon. He also managed to get pink eye on Thursday, which was considerably less fun.
nathaniel
Nathaniel also had a sick week. He scratched his cornea earlier this week and then got a never-ending runny nose which has caused many scabs in his nostrils. Most of these have also made him quite cranky this week. He hasn’t had his veggies once and he’s been super-whiny when it’s nap time or bedtime. He has been loving watching TV (especially Sprout) and makes sure to turn it on as soon as he wakes up. I tolerate it just for now because he’s so sick but we will have to go back to being stricter next week.

David says:
I gave this story five stars because I thought Junie B. was funny and I liked how she was calling May Dumb Bunny in her head. I also liked how she was nice to Sheldon and took his side when May was teasing him.
I liked that they made a rule about not tripping the bunny or you’d get in trouble because the bunny has big feet and this way the egg hunt wouldn’t be unfair to her. I thought it was nice that Lucille gave invitations to everyone in the class and didn’t leave anyone out.
I thought Mr. Scary’s rule of counting to twenty two times and then going home and still not tattling was funny. For Junie, being the bunny was bad because she kept falling and couldn’t run, but it was good because she got to have her picture taken with everyone. In the end, falling helped too because that’s how she found the golden egg.

Jake was in LA briefly last weekend for his friend John’s wedding. It was during the long weekend and we all missed him but he had a great time and got to see some childhood friends which was great. He’s been working hard since he’s back. Meetings, trading, setting up accounts, filing forms. That’s pretty much what makes up his days. What’s most wonderful is seeing how much he loves it. It makes me very happy. He’s also been spending a lot of time with David, riding the bike. They went to a robot factory together this week and went to play soccer together last weekend. Great daddy-son time.

With the exception of a grumpy Tuesday, this was a great week for me. I did lots of work and lots of art. I spent a lot of time with the kids and I feel full and grateful. I also made a lot of layouts this week and bought a bunch of art supplies. I am taking Christy’s art journaling class right now and have two more starting on Monday: watercolor bliss and Soul Restoration 2. I am super-excited about both and feeling happy to be surrounded by so much art.
david
David’s school is almost over, just another ten days, so they’ve been doing a lot of end-of-the-year preparation. He has also been doing a lot of art tracing and coloring and word searches. He has signed up for several classes for the summer: swimming, soccer, gymnastics, and a special week-long lego class. He’s very excited for all of them and I am too because during the year he doesn’t do any activities so this is our special time.
nathaniel
Nathaniel is all about drawing this week. He has been begging to sit on the chair and draw. He much prefers markers over crayons but since he’s not so great about putting the tops back on, he’s stuck with crayons or pencils for now. I love watching him color. He now sits next to me at his little table and colors as I scrap.

David says:
I gave this story five stars because I liked how Katie found out that Selena was actually nice to animals and they became friends at the end and I like how the boys who cheated got caught and had to clean up dog poop (which was funny!).
I also really liked the bug facts, especially the one about how fast dragon flies can fly. But I didn’t like that the boys cheated because they knew they would get in trouble if they got caught and they were being lazy.
My favorite of the science projects was the volcano that exploded because I like that it had lava inside which exploded. I also liked the lightning bug because I thought it was cool that they thought to use a flashlight to make it light up. I also thought the solar system was cool cause they used different fruits for each planet.

This was a fantastic week for Jake! He made a lot of progress on several tasks and felt optimistic and excited all week long. He also bought some bonds and made progress with potential clients and other possible extensions for his business. Jake is really great at having a large network and a wide variety of personal and professional friends and colleagues that he regularly keeps in touch with. I often wish I were as good about keeping up with my friends as he is.

This week was great for me as well. Wonderfully productive weekend filled with art and reading and relaxing and family time. Then I got a lot of work done early in the week and we had friends over a few times this week so it was good on that front as well. I was in a lot of pain in the middle of the week which was terrible but I am still working actively on being positive so I’ve managed to not focus on it. I also did a lot of scrapping this week, already working on CHA summer. And, I can’t forget to mention that Wednesday was our ninth wedding anniversary. Nine years of being married to my best friend. I am a lucky, lucky girl.
david
David had a wonderful week. He and I have been taking walks daily right after school, so we’ve been talking a lot and it’s been great. He managed to get a Pokémon card this week by trading some of his silly bands and it has made his week. He also did a lot of tracing at school and I love seeing him do art during choice time. I love that he likes to do arts and crafts.
nathaniel
Nathaniel has also been doing a lot of art. He loves to sit in the chair by the table and draw on paper. I think it’s about emulating his older brother but he looks so so cute. Even though he gets sick of his crayons quickly and is very high-maintenance, I love watching him scribble and seeing how much he enjoys being a big boy.
