Weekly Diary – September 7 2013

Here are some photos from this week:

David started third grade. This is the only photo he’d let me take and he wouldn’t even bother to look at me.

so i just took some photos around the class.

and of his backpack.

Nathaniel was nicer on his first day.

he immediately went to playing with blocks.

over the weekend, we went to Tiburon again.

here’s the view from our room.

the boys were very happy.

David got right to reading.

and Nathaniel to being silly.

I snapped some shots.

hard to get this one to look at me.

so i just give up.

he didn’t really move till the book was finished.

and this one played games with daddy.

some more photos when we went out to dinner.

always the silly one.

with millions of faces.

love david’s hair here.

all my boys.

the next day they went to play ball.

David’s been practicing with daddy a lot.

catching.

and throwing.

then there was rock walking.

some posing for me.

so, of course, the little one copied too.

boys again.

and one more.

and then it was family photos.

love these boys so much.

tickle time!

and here we go. so grateful for my life. i hope your week was lovely, too.

Weekly Diary – August 31 2013

Here are some photos from this week:

Most of this week’s photos are from the kids’ last soccer class for the summer.

usually Jake takes them but I tagged along just to see them and snap some shots.

Nathaniel played by himself during David’s class.

He had a ton of fun.

almost as much as I did taking photos.

David had a blast too.

look at my boys.

with big smiles on their faces.

water break.

cutie faces.

Nathaniel listening to his teacher.

we also went to the Palo Alto Zoo for a little bit.

we saw the bobcats, spiders, bees, snakes and more.

and i snapped photos of course.

little poser, he loves to fake pout.

how is it that I ended up with a blue eyed boy?

then it was family photo time, Nathaniel made us laugh of course.

look at the difference on the right vs left.

finally David gave in, too.

he’s not a fan of being tickled.

and here we go. so grateful for my life. i hope your week was lovely, too.

Weekly Diary – August 24 2013

Here are some photos from this week:

I decided I wanted to go to the beach so we all got in the car and drove up to Half Moon Bay.

on the way, we found this locomotive restaurant and decided we had to stop and eat.

they were so nice and even sounded the whistle for Nathaniel.

I took the chance to snap photos.

love this boy so much.

and this one.

daddy was tickling him cause we wanted him to smile more naturally.

lest you think he always likes having his photo taken.

more tickling.

more non-smiley faces.

and finally a smile.

then it was time for the beach.

the boys and I took our shoes off and dipped our toes in the ocean. It was super-cold but also a ton of fun.

it was an unusually warm day and had we been in beach-gear, we could have actually spent the day there and played in the sand but since it’s usually cold and windy at the beaches up here, I thought it would be that way so we overdressed. Next time, we’ll spend a more beach-y day. I love love love being near the ocean.

then it was family photo time.

there was laughter of course.

some smiles.

and a bunch more tickling.

and here we go. so grateful for my life. i hope your week was lovely, too.

Weekly Diary – August 17 2013

Here are some photos from this week:

I asked Jake to take photos of the boys during soccer.

better than nothing.

this week we went to the flower conservatory at Golden Gate park.

I couldn’t get any good photos of the boys, but I tried.

then walked over to get some ice cream.

we kept seeing people driving bike surreys so we decided to rent one.

the kids played a bunch while Jake waited for the paperwork.

david was determined to bike.

and steer.

I, of course, took photos.

Nathaniel played for a bit, too. He got to sit in the front basket while we biked. It was pretty tiring but also fun.

then we went to see the dahlias.

and another shot by Jake during swim class.

i love the boys snuggle up when they play games.

I took them to the park nearby and shot photos as they played.

Nathaniel posing.

David, too, of course.

then it was family photo time.

Nathaniel kept looking out the window.

until we screamed We Love Legos!

and then tickle time!!

and here we go. so grateful for my life. i hope your week was lovely, too.

Weekly Diary – August 10 2013

Here are some photos from this week:

David at his NASA camp.

He used the Kerbal Space Program.

which he loved.

and did some Scratch programming.

then we went out to celebrate.

the kids got to color at the restaurant.

i love this photo and his expression.

and the love of my life.

I had to go to work a bunch this week and the kids made a fort while i was gone.

so Jake snapped some shots.

which made me laugh.

thank you, love.

and then it was family photo time.

i love getting to do this.

even if for 15 minutes.

the laughter and tiny joyful moments.

amongst the “be quiet, smile, look at the camera!!!” ones, of course.

and here we go. so grateful for my life. i hope your week was lovely, too.

Weekly Diary – August 3 2013

Here are some photos from this week:

This was our week to take the monthly Tiburon trip. Before getting there, we stopped by the city to visit Jake’s cousin on his tugboat.

I tried really hard to get a good photo of all the boys.

but it just wasn’t meant to be.

Nathaniel’s life jacket was a few sizes too big.

but he was having fun anyway.

David liked it, too, I think.

They were both pretty curious and it was both interesting and fascinating being there. Thank you, cousin Dominic.

When we got to the hotel, I snapped what I think is one of the best photos of David.

I tried to get some of Nathaniel, too.

but he wasn’t as accommodating.

I snapped some anyway.

he’s such a cutie patootie.

the next day we decided to go to Sausalito. We started with a lunch where the kids got to use the orange squeezing machine.

Nathaniel got a turn too.

he loved putting the orange in.

right at the top.

and then letting it go and watching the machine squeeze it.

then we went to the Bay Model which is a model of the whole San Francisco Bay. The kids absolutely loved it.

they wanted to see every single corner.

and then it was time for family shots.

nathaniel adding his own flavor of course.

lest he seem unenthusiastic.

and tickle time of course!

and here we go. so grateful for my life. i hope your week was lovely, too.

Weekly Diary – July 27 2013

Here are some photos from this week:

We went to our friend Geoff’s son’s birthday and they had a science show where the kids got to feel and taste dry ice.

Nathaniel was too scared to taste.

so he just felt it with his hands.

then they got to make slime (ew!).

had some yummy food.

and it was time to have fun with the pinata.

David tried pretty hard.

and did some good damage but didn’t get candy.

after they broke it and the kids ate a ton of candy and got sweet goodie bags, we headed back home. We then decided it would be fun to go to the pool. We spent some time in the big pool and then the kiddie pool.

the boys had a lot of fun.

and i just clicked away (I swam too but took a break for some photos.)

and then it was family photos time where the little boy wasn’t cooperating as usual.

there was kicking legs up and closing eyes and just shenanigans in general.

so we moved right on to tickle time instead. Love tickle time.

and here we go. so grateful for my life. i hope your week was lovely, too.

Weekly Diary – July 20 2013

So I have over eighty images from the last few weeks. Even though they didn’t officially take place on July 13 and 20, I will be splitting them across those weeks to make sure I preserve our holiday memories. These are very image-heavy posts so feel free to skip. With that, here’s part2 (part 1 is here):

Jeff and Nathaniel spent a lot of time together. He was so kind and patient and sweet to the four-year-old.

and both of my boys spent hours playing in the sand.

and with waterguns.

in the water.

exploring, having fun.

shooting each other.

writing in the sand.

imitating his brother.

more sand play.

we got Nathaniel a floatie so he would have no qualms about being in the water.

and David got some goggles.

there was much splashing.

and kissing.

and love.

Nathaniel running after Jeff to try to splash him.

the boys, horsing around.

they even wore hats which they never wear at home.

they played with water the most.

Nathaniel was very excited the whole time.

and everyone spoiled him of course.

my wonderful dad. happy birthday dad. i love you.

wonderful Aksel. He’s super tall, really bright and so sweet.

Nathaniel being funny as always.

playing with water. concocting potions.

David, making faces at me for taking photos nonstop.

Jeff helping Nathaniel concoct.

friends’ kids helping the boys.

and then some more of the four cousins.

talking while I shoot.

laughing and making jokes.

a serious attempt.

and breaking down, of course.

the twins. I love these boys so much. So proud of each of them and so grateful to have them in my life.

so glad that we all got to spend these magical days together.

and then just a few more shots of us once we were back home.

our family complete again.

and here we go. so grateful for my life. i hope your week was lovely, too.

Weekly Diary – July 13 2013

So I have over eighty images from the last few weeks. Even though they didn’t officially take place on July 13 and 20, I will be splitting them across those weeks to make sure I preserve our holiday memories. These are very image-heavy posts so feel free to skip. With that, here’s part1 (part 2 here.):

Before our big trip to Bodrum, we went to Los Angeles for two days. The plan was that Jake would drive us all down, we’d spend two days there and then fly to Turkey just the three of us and he’d go back home. He would then come back down to pick us up so we wouldn’t have to change planes on the way back to San Fran. I think it was flawed in some ways and a good plan in other ways. Either way, it meant we had a two-day full-family vacation before our big vacation.

they couldn’t see anything since we didn’t put coins in. Not that it stopped them from having fun.

we went browsing at Santa Monica pier.

the boys were fascinated but most things.

but loved the video games the most.

oh and getting to pet this super-cool lizard.

we stayed in Santa Monica and we walked to have breakfast each morning. I snapped shots of the boys.

and really enjoyed being there.

the boys spent a ton of time in the hotel pool.

and we even got to visit our friend Jess and her wonderful family.

all in all, LA was great and I was not nearly as nervous as I was when I got on the plane with the boys though I was really sad to say goodbye to Jake. Our trip was mostly uneventful. After hours and hours on the first plane, we finally landed in Istanbul and then went through the visa line and then the customs line. Then we walked to domestic flights and went through another security check. And finally we could rest. My sister and her family were supposed to meet us there to take the same flight down to Bodrum with us, but we had a 4-hour layover and didn’t expect them until it got closer to the actual flight time. We rested a bit, Nathaniel ate a bite and then we found our gate (which was down a bunch of stairs which we had to go up and down several times cause of no bathrooms and I had to carry our carryons up and down and up and down and I was really wiped at this point.) then the time came for our flight and my sister was still nowhere to be seen. We got worried but figured maybe there was a change of plans and no one told us since we had no mobile reception in Turkey. So we got on the plane (some more stairs up for that.) and took off.

When we got to Bodrum, my mom and dad said that my sister, Yona, had been delirious worried about me and that they were actually at the later flight out of Istanbul and thought we were too so she was panicked when she didn’t see us there. All this meant that we had to wait yet another 1.5 hours for their flight to land and it was around 1am local-time by this point.

All this made for a relatively long day(s) to get there but also quite uneventful and painless in the grand scheme of things.

As I’d promised my sister, I brought my camera along and hers was the first photo I took. Isn’t she so beautiful?

and then my beautiful mom.

the boys were super-happy and got lots of ipad time.

and snuggle-up time.

they spent a lot of time playing with Yona’s kids.

David loved the pirate costume Yona brought him.

Nathaniel loved all the attention he got.

here’s my mom again.

she is much loved.

i love this shot of Yona’s son Jeff with Nathaniel.

and here he is smirking mischievously.

Jeff again.

i am much loved, too.

my sister’s other boy, Aksel, took this one and I love it.

this one, too.

here he is with Nathaniel.

David playing cards with Jeff.

and my sister and I. I love her so so much.

I love David so much, too.

my dad, who’s the reason we all went there. His wonderful birthday. So grateful for him.

Yona and the boys. I love this photo.

and this one too.

you can’t hear all the laughter when you look but I can still remember the moment I snapped the photo. That’s what I love about taking pictures. Getting to really relive the moments.

It was important that we take some of the four boys.

and i love these.

i just kept snapping.

and then my parents joined in too.

there was kissing

and laughing (and funny faces)

and tickle time, of course.

and then a few of us when we got back.

laughter here, too.

and here we go. so grateful for my life. i hope your week was lovely, too.
