Daily Diary – March 2 2011

This is what Nathaniel does during the day. Makes a huge huge huge mess.

but then he plays.

and plays and plays.

and so does the big boy.

I am so deeply grateful for the people who invented legos!

and I am pretty sure my kids are, too.

Three Things I’m Grateful For:
1. I am grateful that things are going relatively smoothly lately at work. I am crossing my fingers that things don’t change!
2. I am grateful that I finished another 2.8 miles. It was still really hard but I did it. so thankful.
3. I am grateful for art and photos and my kids and my husband and all the things in my life that are bringing me so much joy. There’s so much beauty everywhere.

Three Things David’s Grateful For:
1. I am grateful that we played batman at school {* his pick for the journal}
2. I am grateful that we had music
3. I am grateful that mommy got me some games for the phone

Daily Diary – March 1 2011

Today was a more relaxing day but still really busy and working a lot. I started my day with exercise and I will admit that 2.8 was considerably harder than 2.7. Seems silly but it was.

Nathaniel’s lip is healing and he seems in a better mood .

So was the big boy today.

See the lip? There’s a big bruise inside too.

But the little boy is actually doing ok. Thankfully.

Even smiling a lot. He’s a trooper!

Too tired to write tonight. Apologies, I will make up for it tomorrow, I promise.

Three Things I’m Grateful For:
1. I am grateful that I did another push today. go me!
2. I am grateful that I finished the 2.8 miles. It was really really hard but I did it.
3. I am grateful for some rest time tonight. I really need it.

Three Things David’s Grateful For:
1. I am grateful that we played angry birds at school {* his pick for the journal}
2. I am grateful that daddy and I read a comic book together
3. I am grateful that i had p.e. today

Daily Diary – February 28 2011

Wow. I am glad the weekend was quiet because today was anything but. Nathaniel woke up in hysterics at 5am and would not go back down. So I gave up and got up. Then it was breakfast, reading, taking David to the bus and exercising.

Nathaniel wasn’t really interested in letting me take photos today.

I worked all day and then we picked up David who was kind enough to let me take a photo.

then he made his silly faces.

You can barely see it but Nathaniel imitated him seconds later. (wouldn’t do it again for me to take a photo!)

Then, as David and I read more Nathaniel slipped and busted his lip. Which let into hysterics. I cleaned him and then hugged him for a long time. Then I had to rush and do the Chrome release so he sat to eat but of course was in pain.

Thankfully Daddy came home around this time and life was so much better. It took a while and quite a bit of drama but both of the kids went to sleep and now I am ready to pass out. Except that I have 6 more items on my todo list. Oh well. Some days are just like that!

By the way, if you’re on the edge about my class, you only have two more days to sign up. Now or never.

Also just a few more hours to sign up for the newsletter as the March one mails out in less than 5 hours.

Three Things I’m Grateful For:
1. I am grateful that I managed to push out the dev channel. Phew.
2. I am grateful for a few quiet hours before it’s sleep time for me. I plan to fill them with art and journaling.
3. I am grateful for new lessons in both my sketching and mixed media class. I love watching all the videos and look forward to them excitedly.

Three Things David’s Grateful For:
1. I am grateful that we played monster truck racers {* his pick for the journal}
2. I am grateful that i have p.e. tomorrow
3. I am grateful that i get to do another page in my washington book

Daily Diary – February 27 2011

I am thankful for weekends like this. Quiet-paced, low on stress, high on family time, and peace. Lots of peace. I slept in late this morning because Nathaniel woke up shrieking at 5am and it took me a while to calm him down. So we both fell back asleep right after it. I then began my morning routine of checking mail, exercising, family photo and reading to David. Then I worked on my sketching and then a layout. The little boy was given two chances to nap but he didn’t take either of them.

Here are some from our morning: Nathaniel thrilled to have the remote and David, bummed.

Daddy sneaking a kiss and look at that little boy’s face.

Tickle time!!

When we were done, David wanted a turn with the remote since he hadn’t gotten one earlier.

And Nathaniel ran away with my lens cap so I had to snap this and then chase him down.

The day ended with family time where we played Monopoly Jr. twice. I won once and Daddy the second time. Then it was time for David to go to bed (and Nathaniel who was definitely melting down due to not having had a nap). Now I am processing photos, watching the Oscars and feeling so thankful for my life. Tomorrow starts David’s school and a hectic week at work. I will cherish these few hours of quiet and peace.

Three Things I’m Grateful For:
1. I am grateful for a wonderful weekend.
2. I am grateful for Oscars. I remember watching them at 6am as a little kid. Always loved the Oscars.
3. I am grateful there’s one more day in February. The idea of March is a bit haunting for me and I am not sure why. Alas one more day.

Three Things David’s Grateful For:
1. I am grateful that we played monopoly jr. {* his pick for the journal}
2. I am grateful that mommy got me a few iphone games
3. I am grateful that i played with nathaniel

Daily Diary – February 26 2011

The greatest part of today was that I had absolutely nothing that had to get done. I still made a list and still completed most of the items on it but I felt relaxed all day because nothing was nagging me. Since it was Saturday, after I exercised, we took some family photos. Here’s David playing while I am setting the camera up.

Here’s a fun shot which was technically not so great and the boys are not looking at the camera. But it’s still wonderful.

And here’s Daddy sneaking in a kiss while Nathaniel tries to steal the remote.

Then the little boy napped while the rest of us began our day. I worked a bit on my newsletter and finished up my digital downloads. I then did some sketching and some drawing. I will write more up about both soon. When the little boy woke up, we took a long walk in the neighborhood and I stopped to snap a photo of my boys.

Then we came home, rested, ate a bit, and David went back to playing Wii.

The day ended with a trip to Target so we could restock on fruit and veggies. The kids went to bed and it’s almost time for me to go, as well. All in all, relaxing day full of art. I can’t ask for anything more really.

Three Things I’m Grateful For:
1. I am grateful that I sketched today, it was a great feeling.
2. I am grateful for a wonderful family walk. I am definitely in better shape thanks to the daily exercise and I am grateful for that, too.
3. I am grateful that we went shopping. Having fresh fruit at home makes snacking much easier and healthier.

Three Things David’s Grateful For:
1. I am grateful that it was my wii day {* his pick for the journal}
2. I am grateful that I got some extra wii time today
3. I am grateful that daddy’s teaching me about logic gates

Daily Diary – February 25 2011

Today did not really go as planned. But, alas some days are like that. Work ended up going a completely different way and consumed me most of the day in a negative light. But I still exercised and read to David and, well that’s about it. But that’s ok. I will work on my newsletter tonight. Comment more in my class. Do my art journal. I did snap some photos my boys.

I love them so.

And they’ve been angels about playing quietly, wonderfully. Both together and apart.

I am still trying to figure out my plans for the portraits. I don’t really feel like doing them anymore which is a sign that something needs to change. I also want to sketch more but I haven’t been able to come up with a system I like. So I need to work on both of those. Find a way to play and look forward to it. I have too much on my list already so I don’t want to be dreading these personal goals. I want them to be fun and educational.

The plans for this weekend are wide open and I am very grateful for that. I will work on my newsletter. I have already made the digital downloads so make sure to subscribe if you want those as they are exclusive to the newsletter members. I’ve also added a button on the left for my blog. A few people asked so I wanted to make sure I did it. I think that’s it for now. I am off to rest, rejuvenate and relax. Here’s to a great weekend!

Three Things I’m Grateful For:
1. I am grateful for a tiring but good week. I feel like I made so much progress on everything this week.
2. I am grateful for kindness and art and people willing to teach and share. I feel so grateful for the internet these days.
3. I am grateful for a wide open weekend. I will try to make good use of it. Journal a bunch and make some progress on the food, sketching, portraits and newsletter. But I will also rest a bunch.

Three Things David’s Grateful For:
1. I am grateful that we finished our book {* his pick for the journal}
2. I am grateful that I played with my brother (i told him it was the last time he can use this one.)
3. I am grateful that mommy got me some new games on the iphone.

Daily Diary – February 24 2011

Today was a planned hectic day. I was scheduled to go to work so I woke up, did some work, checked into my class and then exercised. I did some more work while the kids played. David was on the iPhone and Nathaniel was curiously watching him.

Here’s a little depth of field fun: Nathaniel.

Here’s a little depth of field fun: David.

He went to get his legos but he’s still super curious about David.

Finally gives up and just plays next to his brother.

Then Jake came home so I went to work. I was there for five hours, more than I’ve spent there for all of 2010 likely. But it was fantastic. I learned a lot, got a lot of work done, saw some friends and came back home. Nathaniel was reading a Thomas book so I snapped a photo.

Then it was time to put the kids down and get to my personal todo list. David and I read and then he wrote his gratitudes. Now he’s doing his workbook and I am about to leave to go get my adapter (which I left at work!) and then come back and comment in my class. And then there’s the art journal, portrait, sketching, etc. I expect it to be a long night but i am still thankful for a good day.

Three Things I’m Grateful For:
1. I am grateful for a great trip to work. Learned a lot, did a lot, and I feel great.
2. I am grateful for my new class. I love everything about it!
3. I am grateful that this has been such a week of growth for me. I feel so tired and fulfilled.

Three Things David’s Grateful For:
1. I am grateful that I was home all day {* his pick for the journal}
2. I am grateful that I played with my brother (still going)
3. I am grateful that I skipped my vegetables.

Daily Diary – February 23 2011

Another productive day at work. This feels great.

I woke up, exercised and then took some shots of David.

And he couldn’t resist of course.

Then, I again put my headphones on so that I wouldn’t be distracted while the kids played together.

And then the little boy played while David worked on his legos.

Then it was naptime. David played while I worked more with the headphones. After nap time, I read to David while the little one sat with us.

Then the mail came and David finally got his birthday present from my parents. He was ecstatic.

While he got to work right away, Nathaniel moved the chairs around and made himself a play area, too.

I worked and worked and worked. Now I am processing shots while Daddy gives them dinner and David works on his lego. I have to sketch a bit, work on my portrait (which I neglected yesterday) and then do my art journal. I am off to book club tonight so all of these have to get done soon. Feeling good, though, and happy about two productive days in a row. Let’s hope the streak continues.

Three Things I’m Grateful For:
1. I am grateful for another productive day at work. I feel like I’m finally getting my groove back.
2. I am grateful for my husband who manages to get home right about when I’m ready to lose it. He’s magic.
3. I am grateful that my kids are so great at playing on their own and being so kind to me. They give me the room to get my work done and they are so wonderful.

Three Things David’s Grateful For:
1. I am grateful for my new legos {* his pick for the journal}
2. I am grateful that I played with my brother (i see a trend here.)
3. I am grateful that I get to play Wii in two days.

Daily Diary – February 22 2011

One of the things I learned from my journaling this weekend is that what makes me most productive is actually being productive. And like I do with my art, I just need to show up at the table and do my work. So this morning, even though I was tired and felt like lying there more than anything else, I got up and worked. I exercised and then showered and got ready to do some work.

I put my headphones on so that I wouldn’t be distracted while the kids played. They were both in a good mood.

After a while, they decided to put all the pillows on the floor and fall on them. They laughed and laughed so much that I had to grab my camera and snap some shots. I know it looks scary but he was laughing. A lot. So was the older boy.

Then it was lunchtime, nap time, mommy work time. I did a lot lot lot of focused work. Then Jake came home and took them out to get their hair cuts and I had a meeting. And then I gave them dinner and David and I did workbooks. And now they are in bed and I am wiped. I still have my portrait, sketch, and journaling to do but I feel happy and fulfilled. I am no more or less tired than if I had spent the day whining on the couch and I got a lot more done so as I suspected stuff gets done when i sit to do it. I can’t wait for the mood to strike. I just do it.

Three Things I’m Grateful For:
1. I am grateful for the kids today. They were wonderful about letting me work and having fun on their own.
2. I am grateful for a lot of work getting done at work. It was one of those good days.
3. I am grateful that I started a new book and it’s great so far. I love finding good books.

Three Things David’s Grateful For:
1. I am grateful that mom and I are reading a nice book {* his pick for the journal}
2. I am grateful that I played with my legos
3. I am grateful that i played with my little brother (yet again!)

Daily Diary – February 21 2011

Today started with exercise and then setting up the family shoot while the boys played.

And hugged.

We had an almost good shot here if it weren’t for David’s crazy face.

Nathaniel wrestled the remote from me so Daddy gave me a kiss.

And then the craziness began as Nathaniel hoped to leap out of my lap.

After that, we all went bowling together. The balls were too heavy for David and it took forever for each to roll down the lane.

Nathaniel had a great time watching and clapping and yelling “ball” each time.

I tried to keep David out of the way when it wasn’t his turn because he kept getting hit by the ball.

Then Nathaniel discovered the computer.

Which immediately became his favorite thing.

So he was not happy when David took his spot.

Then we came home and Nathaniel skipped his nap once more. David and I read, he did some workbooks and I did some of the todo items on my list.

Now we’re winding down as Jake gives them dinner. I am planning on going out to see “I am Number Four” with a few friends tonight and tomorrow we’re back to work. Even though I replied to some of the emails and comments, I am still really far behind on that. Alas, tomorrow is another day.

Three Things I’m Grateful For:
1. I am grateful for family bowling!
2. I am grateful for great photos. I love taking these family shots so much.
3. I am grateful that I get to see a movie. Love love love movies.

Three Things David’s Grateful For:
1. I am grateful that I went bowling {* his pick for the journal}
2. I am grateful that we might play monopoly again
3. I am grateful that i played with my little brother again!

Daily Diary – February 20 2011

I went to bed last night deciding to get a better attitude. Most of this month has been me whining and I am done with that. Things are actually really good. I am doing art, I am exercising, I am reading to my kid, I am stretching at work, I am journaling and even sketching. I am reading. I am taking photos. I am kissing my kids. I am even going out occasionally. I need to just relax. I’ve been doing a lot of the work in Melody’s final lesson and it’s all about choices. So anyway. I woke up this morning, exercised and then got to work. I did a lot of the todo list items while the kids played. Well, Nathaniel just put stickers all over his legs. (His recent obsession.)

And David was on the computer.

Here’s Nathaniel smirking but not looking at me.

Then it was time for the family shot. The thing is, with four people almost always one boy is looking elsewhere.

And when he looks back, the other one gets obsessed with the remote.

We try a bunch more times and then it’s time to get crazy. Everyone laughs and enjoyes tickle time.

Then Jake left to work and David and I did workbooks and he read a book to me and we got organized. So now he knows which workbook to do on what day (he does 3-5 pages a day) and he also picked 6 books to read for the week (one a day). I’ve been meaning to do this for a while and I am glad we finally got organized.

Then tried to get a shot of David. He was smiling so much that his eyes got small.

So I told them to make them bigger. And this is what I got.

Followed by this.

I tried to get Nathaniel to nap several times today but alas it wasn’t to be. So we all played for a while, I journaled, etc. Then Daddy came back home and it was family game night. David just got Monopoly Jr. for his birthday so that was the game tonight.

We had a great time playing and then the kids went to bed and I did a bunch of art. Finished my Soul Restoration homework (all I have left to do is my truth cards which I have only done one of the whole time. This will have to be a project for March or April.) and I finished the art/journaling book page for this week (more on this soon) and made two more pages in my book. We also worked on all the tax work we’d still left to do. It’s now 9pm which means I only have 1-2 hours left in my night. We plan to spend some cuddle time and then maybe I will draw one portrait and likely that’s going to be it for tonight. Tomorrow’s big task is to return emails. I have been neglectful of emails and comments.

A really good Sunday all in all, though, and I wish every week was a 3-day-weekend!

Three Things I’m Grateful For:
1. I am grateful for so much productivity today.
2. I am grateful for family game night. I love game night.
3. I am grateful that I get to have one more day tomorrow before the stress and craziness of work begins once more.

Three Things David’s Grateful For:
1. I am grateful that I played with my little brother {* his pick for the journal}
2. I am grateful that Daddy won Monopoly Jr.
3. I am grateful that we had game night!

Daily Diary – February 19 2011

Happy Saturday!! We started our day relatively quietly over here with the little one playing and David and I reading. Nathaniel’s been really good at playing alone lately.

He loves books, especially ones with trains in them.

Then I exercised and showered and it was time to take the family shots. Nathaniel knows the drill now and was gesturing for David to sit on Daddy’s lap.

And then all my boys were together. Love my boys.

We took a bunch but the remote was really misbehaving. It wouldn’t take pictures no matter what I tried. So I finally gave up. And found another remote to order. We got only a few shots this time.

Then it was time for Wii and naps. After Nathaniel’s nap, we went to Red Robin cause I was craving the chicken salad. But of course, immediately after eating it, I was overcome with guilt and regret. Then we came home and it was more wii time.

And play time for the little one.

I read and did some art and drew some faces. Plans for tonight are more of the same. Some journaling, some art, and maybe some reading. I feel truly truly exhausted so I feel no desire or energy to do anything even tiny bit taxing on my brain. Thus everything keeps getting postponed while I lay here and relax. Oh well, that’s the purpose of a weekend, right?

Three Things I’m Grateful For:
1. I am grateful for some art time.
2. I am grateful that I am reading a book I love and keep looking forward to my exercise time because it means I get to read more of it.
3. I am grateful that Jake is being really kind to me and my random breakdowns lately. I am deeply lucky to have him.

Three Things David’s Grateful For:
1. I am grateful that I got play games at Red Robin {* his pick for the journal}
2. I am grateful that Daddy spent more fun time with me
3. I am grateful that i got a balloon at Red Robin
