Daily Sketching – Week 13

Here are the sketches from this week. The ones from this week are still a bit plain but I like these more than the ones from last week. I like the color, too and I think I might try to mix in color more often.

Wednesday, I made this girl. I didn’t color her but I should have. at least i could have added some depth:

the next day, I did the deer. I love how it turned out:

Friday I did this elephant and I got the proportions wrong a bit.

on Saturday I did a simple girl with baby.

on Sunday, I did the girl feeding the fish.

and then colored it.

Monday, I picked another girl. I love this artist and the girls she makes.

and Tuesday I did another girl by the same artist who’s wonderful.

and here we are. as always some are ok others not so great. let’s see what next week brings.

Daily Sketching – Week 12

Here are the sketches from this week. The ones from this week are on the plain side. I seem to be in a slight rut. I have plans to get out of it but I’ve been a bit too busy lately.:

Wednesday, I made this girl with balloons:

the next day, I did the birds:

Friday I did this girl but I think I got the proportions wrong.

on Saturday I did another girl.

on Sunday, I tried to do this Belle and Boo girl but it looks off somehow.

Monday, I picked another one of her girls. I love this artist and own several of her prints.

and Tuesday I completely changed course and drew my version of this amazing church. But I really didn’t feel like doing it and David asked me to but my heart wasn’t in it. So mine came out pretty bad.

and here we are. as always some are ok others not so great. let’s see what next week brings.

Daily Sketching – Week 11

Here are the sketches from this week. I drew a few more portraits but then I had enough so here we go:

Wednesday, I tried to make a portrait like this wonderful girl and my terrible version:

the next day, I did another girl. a little better this time:

Friday I did this girl I’ve admired for a long time and while I messed up the hair, i think the face turned out alright.

on Saturday I got sick of the portraits and did something different with this girl.

on Sunday, I tried a girl again and i can’t find the source anymore because it appears I forgot to pin it 🙁 I will find it but trust me when I tell you my version sucks:

Monday, I decided I’d had enough of faces so I tackled a violin:

and Tuesday I drew these cute houses.

and here we are. as always some are ok others not so great. let’s see what next week brings.

Daily Sketching – Week 10

Here are the sketches from this week. I drew a terrible portrait on Wednesday so I decided to challenge myself and draw only portraits for a little while. If the lack of variety bores you, I apologize in advance.

Here’s the original, amazing girl and my terrible version:

the next day, I did another girl. a little better this time:

Friday I did this girl.

on Saturday I made the stunning girl.

on Sunday, I drew this girl but just her face.

Monday, I drew this girl but in graphite:

and Tuesday I drew this girl. but again just the face:

and here we are. some are ok others not so great. likely i will do another week of portraits.

Daily Sketching – Week 9

Here are the sketches from this week. In my opinion, this week’s sketches leave much to be desired. I was just not in my element this week. Oh well, at least I still did it daily.

On Wendesday, I started with a quick girl.

right after, I did another one the same artist. First I drew a quick outline:

then i colored it:

Thursday I did this sweet girl.

Friday was this boy and girl. I love this artist and have some of her artwork in my home.

on Saturday I made the gothic tree. I wanted to go back to graphite.

on Sunday, I tried to do this amazing painting and failed miserably. Especially with the face.

Monday, I went back to graphite and drew the houses:

and Tuesday I drew this girl. Like the hammock one, I drew it first:

and then colored it in:

and here we are.

Daily Sketching – Week 8

Here are the sketches from this week. I am still playing around with different subject matter, mediums, etc. I can’t say I’ve found my comfort zone yet and while most of these are ok, I am still not really happy with them. But practice makes perfect, right? So I keep practicing.

On Wendesday, I started simple with this girl.

right after, I tried something different with this girl.

Thursday I did these owls.

Friday was the birds and trees in water.

on Saturday I made the girl with wings

on Sunday, I did this face:

Monday, I totally changed course and made the windmills:

and Tuesday I tried to make this amazing girl but my attempts were nothing like the striking original:

and here we are. Not the best week but also not the worst. I am still going and I love that.

Daily Sketching – Week 7

Here are the sketches from this week. Still experimenting and trying a wide variety.

On Wendesday, I started simple with this girl.

Thursday I did another girl.

then colored it.

Friday was the fish which took a lot longer than you might think.

and here it is with color:

on Saturday I made the girl drinking tea:

here she is with color:

that night, I made one more quick one:

Sunday, I made yet another girl:

Monday, I felt too scared to try this sketch. so I challenged myself to do it.

and Tuesday I made this weird one:

the last one is the only sketch I like from the week. And maybe the non-colored fish one. I’m learning about what I like and what I don’t and I am still practicing as much as I can.

Daily Sketching – Week 6

Here are the sketches from this week. Still experimenting and trying a wide variety.

On Wendesday, I made my own version of this tree.

then colored it.

that one took forever!

On Thursday, I had little time and wanted to do a quick one so I picked this girl.

and colored it.

on Friday, I tried to sketch from a photograph, so I went for a lizard.

on Saturday I made my version of these sketched houses:

And then I did this bird.

Sunday, I made this awesome tree and bird, though mine is “cleaner”.

Monday, I did this girl. I don’t like how it turned out but I sketched and that’s what matters:

later that day, I did another girl.

and Tuesday I made this face:

And here we are. six weeks and counting.

Daily Sketching – Week 5

I’m still sketching daily here. I’ve been experimenting a bunch more this week some hits and a bunch of misses. But I keep at it. It will get better with time and practice. I really believe it.

On Wendesday, I wasn’t feeling it but I decided to try this lovely bowl of butterflies and here’s my version.

don’t love it but I am still happy I tried and then on Thursday I drew another girl from Charlie Bowater: this girl. Simple but I love it.

on Friday I went back to Andrea who is amazing with this wooden doll. I did it in graphite.

then colored it:

on Saturday I made two. I found a sketcher who had thisSultan Ahmet Mosque:

And then I did this girl.

that night, I noticed her left eye was way off and tried to fix it.

Sunday, I picked this girl:

Monday I tried something from a photo of the view master.

and Tuesday I did one from Andrea: beets:

and colored:

and did another quickie one from a photo. not great but still, I tried macaroons:

And here we are. On to more sketches.

Daily Sketching

I’m still sketching daily here. I’ve been experimenting a bunch more this week some hits and a bunch of misses. But I keep at it. It will get better with time and practice. I really believe it.

On Wendesday, I wanted to draw from a picture so I tried to recreate this bracelet and here’s my version.

and then on Thursday I tried to make this purse and realized again that I suck at the color pencils so I tried to add water and that turned out to be a disaster, too:

I felt bummed about my disaster so I made another quick one on Thursday night based on these ballet slippers.

on Friday I wanted to do something different and something that wasn’t a lift of someone’s sketch so I used this toaster:

on Saturday I went back to Andrea’s sketches. I did one half of this side mirror:

And then I did another quickie one based on this sketch of sleeping lovers. Not a huge success.

Sunday, I picked the journals by Andrea:

Monday I discovered Charlie Bowater and fell in love with the girl on a swing.

and Tuesday was another girl:

And here we are. Some experimenting this week. I am still enjoying the process even though some of my sketches make me cringe and I feel discouraged and frustrated more often than anything else, I am still really enjoying this process a lot!

And More Sketches

Last week was more of sketching Andrea Joseph’s last sketches.

On Wendesday, I decided to try my hands at color with these buttons and here’s my version.

and then on Thursday we were leaving so I tried to pick something quick and I did the pajamas:

on Friday I didn’t have my book so I used a paper and sketched in the car. I did the shoe:

on Saturday I wanted to do something a bit more involved and it ended up being too hard. This guitar:

Sunday, I picked the minibus:

Monday had to be easy since I had so much work. So I picked a banana.

and Tuesday was a pair of shoes in a box:

I have good and bad things to say about each but most of all I am just happy I am still sketching daily. I did one yesterday too and it wasn’t one of Andrea’s and it’s not so great but that’s ok. What matters is that I am doing it and doing it every single day.

Here’s to more and more sketching!

More Sketches

Remember when I talked about Andrea Joseph last week? Well, if it’s at all possible, I’ve gotten even more obsessed that I was last week. I’ve been saving all the sketches she’s done that speak to me and using one a day to make my own. I am nowhere near as talented as she is but she’s the first person who inspired me this much in a long long long time. And I am deeply grateful that I am sketching daily all thanks to her.

On Friday, I decided to try my hands at this and here’s my version.

and then on Saturday I did the can of sardines:

and Sunday I tried the Adidas sneakers. Here’s the drawing:

and shaded.

on Monday, I wanted to do something less time consuming since I have work but I didn’t want to skip it, so I did the travel toothbrush:

Tuesday was all about the zipper. This one is much harder than it looks.

I have a long long way to go but I have finally found my happy place where I have her sketches to inspire me so I can really really practice. After I’ve done a whole bunch, I can venture to do things in my house but I am so in need of practice and I am deeply grateful to Andrea for her amazing inspiration. By the way, if you think she’s as amazing as I do she has an etsy shop. (I don’t know Andrea at all, just a fan.)

Here’s to more and more sketching!
