Daily Sketching – Week 13

Here are the sketches from this week. The ones from this week are still a bit plain but I like these more than the ones from last week. I like the color, too and I think I might try to mix in color more often.

Wednesday, I made this girl. I didn’t color her but I should have. at least i could have added some depth:

the next day, I did the deer. I love how it turned out:

Friday I did this elephant and I got the proportions wrong a bit.

on Saturday I did a simple girl with baby.

on Sunday, I did the girl feeding the fish.

and then colored it.

Monday, I picked another girl. I love this artist and the girls she makes.

and Tuesday I did another girl by the same artist who’s wonderful.

and here we are. as always some are ok others not so great. let’s see what next week brings.

Art Journaling – Moleskine Sketch – Week 5

And here are some more journal pages.

A relatively simple page but the colors are a bit too dark for me. Uses mostly pan pastels and Shiva paintstiks. It says “Choose to Love without Conditions.”

This one is really simple but I wanted to learn how to draw tulips so I just followed a tutorial I found online. It uses the watercolor pencils and some watersoluble oil pastels. Says “Stop to smell the flowers.”

This one uses several Crafter’s Workshop templates, pan pastels, and rubons. Says “Do not wait or hesitate to reach out.”

Another one that just uses pan pastels and Crafter’s Workshop templates. The line is from a Jewel song and it says “You already are what you hope to be.”

And finally the last page for this week uses some 7gypsies tissue paper, acrylic inks, stamps, the deer is from Sassafrass Lass I think and the corrugated pieces are from Jillibean Soup I think. It says “Life is Absolutely Magnificent. Enjoy it.”

That’s the five for this week. More coming next week. Thank you for letting me share.

I am creating art journaling pages daily for June (and maybe longer). You can read more about it and the book I am using here.

Weekly Art Journal – Weeklong for June 6

This weeklong page was originally inspired by this amazing doodling except mine sucks. And then I added some watercolors but I was still really unhappy with the page.

So once I started the week, I told myself I would just add more doodling. For the numbers and everything else. I wanted to challenge myself not to use anything but doodles.

here’s the left page:

And the right side:

And here’s the filled page:

I really do not like this one. It’s definitely my least favorite of all the pages I’ve ever done.

Daily Sketching – Week 12

Here are the sketches from this week. The ones from this week are on the plain side. I seem to be in a slight rut. I have plans to get out of it but I’ve been a bit too busy lately.:

Wednesday, I made this girl with balloons:

the next day, I did the birds:

Friday I did this girl but I think I got the proportions wrong.

on Saturday I did another girl.

on Sunday, I tried to do this Belle and Boo girl but it looks off somehow.

Monday, I picked another one of her girls. I love this artist and own several of her prints.

and Tuesday I completely changed course and drew my version of this amazing church. But I really didn’t feel like doing it and David asked me to but my heart wasn’t in it. So mine came out pretty bad.

and here we are. as always some are ok others not so great. let’s see what next week brings.

Art Journaling – Week 4

And here are some more journal pages.

This next page uses Tim Holtz masks, Prima stamps and pan pastels mostly with some oil pastels. It says “Time is your most valuable asset, what will you do with your one precious life?”

Feels a little distressed and the colors are less happy than my usual style.

Right after that one, I decided to try my new Shiva Paintstiks so I made this relatively simple page.

says “dream big.”

And again, after I finish the simple one, I have to go all insane. So I made this one next:

This has book text and map as a background. And then lots of color and layers. It says “Write your own story. Map your own path.”

The next one came super easily. It’s really simple but I love it. It says “I want to choose and exude joy.”

And finally the last page for this week was a response to Soul Restoration II’s second week assignment. I drew the scale and made a mask of myself on one side and put hearts on the other.

On my mask it says “I will remember in all things I do that I want to guide my life and decisions with these qualities that I value the most:” and the hearts say “integrity, joy, peace, love, kindness, help and gratitude.” This is to show me that I want to measure my worth by these values which is why they are on the other side of the scale from me. Mostly used inktense for these too and then added some oil pastels to blend, if I remember correctly.

That’s the five for this week. More coming next week. Thank you for letting me share.

Weekly Art Journal – Weeklong for May 30

This weeklong page was inspired several different pieces of art. I just wanted to create the feeling of hanging hearts. But I used matte medium to adhere the hearts and it smeared all around which of course made them a resist and resisted the watercolors hence the white around the hearts.

then i used oil crayons to add some more blue. I was still unhappy but happier.

I just added more and more color and blotches as I put in my content each day so it would make the blotches around the hearts look more intentional.

here’s the left page:

And the right side:

And here’s the filled page:

I hate it a lot less now 🙂

Daily Sketching – Week 11

Here are the sketches from this week. I drew a few more portraits but then I had enough so here we go:

Wednesday, I tried to make a portrait like this wonderful girl and my terrible version:

the next day, I did another girl. a little better this time:

Friday I did this girl I’ve admired for a long time and while I messed up the hair, i think the face turned out alright.

on Saturday I got sick of the portraits and did something different with this girl.

on Sunday, I tried a girl again and i can’t find the source anymore because it appears I forgot to pin it 🙁 I will find it but trust me when I tell you my version sucks:

Monday, I decided I’d had enough of faces so I tackled a violin:

and Tuesday I drew these cute houses.

and here we are. as always some are ok others not so great. let’s see what next week brings.

Art Journaling – Moleskine Sketch – Week 3

And here are some more journal pages.

This next page uses the Pink Paislee tissue paper and then I used Pan Pastels to add some butterflies in the background and then I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I thought and thought and then finally ended up with this.

I love that Pink Paislee stamp on the right. I added some Tim Holtz tissue tape and a little more stamping and this simple page is done. Different but I like it.

This next one is super simple. Just stars. It says “Always be the best version of you.”

A little too simple maybe. I still like it.

As if to compensate, the next one is crazy busy. Mostly uses acrylics. Says “you are writing the music of your life. Write the song you want to listen to.”

I like all the colors in this one.

The next one didn’t really work out as I’d hoped but I still like it. The quote says “If you look, you can see that you are not as alone as you think. Look harder.”

My intention was to make a mask of one person on the right page and a crowd of people on the left one. Make the left side more obscured to imply that the other people might be hard to see but they are there. Rub ons, Pink Paislee stamps, Cat’s Life Press stamps, pan pastels and acrylics on this one.

And now for something completely different. This one says “You must walk down the path to see where it leads.”

This page was gesso’ed and then I used the Inktense Watercolor pencils to draw the path and trees and color the background. Then I used heavy bodied acrylics to do the tree tops and added some on the trunks, too.

I like how it turned out. Mostly I like that the pages are different from each other and I am trying different mediums, ideas, and layouts.

That’s the five I’ll share this week. More coming next week. Thank you for letting me share.

Weekly Art Journal – Weeklong for May 23

This weeklong page was inspired by some packaging Pinterest photos that were floating around. I wanted to use kraft, white, and yellow.

I used tissue paper for the background and then adhered some doilies.

Here it is empty:

I stuck with yellow, brown, blue and white for the whole page just for fun.

here’s the left page:

And the right side:

And here’s the filled page:

Tissue paper was hard to write on. Lesson learned. But it did turn out pretty cute.

Daily Sketching – Week 10

Here are the sketches from this week. I drew a terrible portrait on Wednesday so I decided to challenge myself and draw only portraits for a little while. If the lack of variety bores you, I apologize in advance.

Here’s the original, amazing girl and my terrible version:

the next day, I did another girl. a little better this time:

Friday I did this girl.

on Saturday I made the stunning girl.

on Sunday, I drew this girl but just her face.

Monday, I drew this girl but in graphite:

and Tuesday I drew this girl. but again just the face:

and here we are. some are ok others not so great. likely i will do another week of portraits.
