This week’s page takes its inspiration from Serena Bridgeman’s lesson from Life Book 2014. Her weathered background was so very beautiful that I yearned to do something similar. I don’t think mine hit the mark but I tried.
The text for this week says: be bold.
I was very scared to make this page. The more I watched her make hers, the more I believed I just couldn’t make mine. When I don’t know how to do something, I generally approach it with a lot of apprehensiveness and fear. I keep telling myself I can’t do it. I worry about failing. I worry about hating the result.
But who cares?
In the end, why does it matter if I fail or if I hate it? And, more importantly, how will I learn if I never try? It’s not possible to learn without trying. And, yes, I can’t fail if I don’t try but I also can’t succeed without trying. Nothing is possible without trying.
so this week’s reminder is to be bold. To try. To go for it!
here’s a side view it’s shiny:
i love the shine:
Note to self: don’t hesitate. go for it. be bold.

This week’s page is a simple one. There are days where I just feel like I can’t think of anything at all to draw. I stare at the walls around me, hoping some idea will jump out at me, and often it does not. This time, I decided to not overthink it, I drew the lamp on my table, simple as it is. It was right there and I am trying to practice sketching. So the lamp it was.
The right side is the tulips that were sitting on my desk, too. And then right next to them, I drew my little bag that I’ve had for over twenty years. It holds my wallet, a few pens, and my phone. It’s easy and tiny, the opposite of my other bag and I love it. Just a week of ordinary items this week.
And there we are. Here’s another week.

This week is all about abundance. About glitter and leaving a trail of it. Sharing the good. Sprinkling it all over everyone. Being generous with everything. My time, my kindness, my love, my sweetness, my patience. My kindness. Here’s to sprinkling glitter every single day.
here is a side look for the lovely gold and shimmer:

This page was inspired by Dyan Reaveley’s lesson from Life Book 2014. It’s a simple page and it wasn’t hard to do. I painted the background with all different stencils and other fun things and then I used a human stencil to make them all black and then left one to stand out by using the opposite part and stenciling around the body.
The text says: choose to be you.
Part of being brave, for me, is being wholly myself. Embracing who I am. Not just being okay with it, but fully owning it. Being proud of it. I am always trying to improve as a person. I have many many many flaws. Many.
But I am trying. And I also have many wonderful characteristics, just like everyone else. I want to remember that what I am best at is being who I am. There’s a reason I am who I am and I want to embrace it 100%. I love many other people and I also want to love who I am.
All of me.

I made this page the day I booked my first flight to Zurich. I was scared and excited at the same time and I hadn’t drawn a plane yet so I thought it would be fun to try to make one.
On the right side, I wasn’t sure what to do. I drew my little Google cup that I drink out of often when I am on the go, where I put my hot tea. And then I just decided to do a little jar lantern for the fun of it.
And there we are. Here’s another week.

This week, I decided to remember serenity. I feel like this year, I’ve done a good job honoring the alive and possibly even open, but not so much on serene. I want to take moments to embrace peace. Moments to sit with a blanket and some tea. To watch the sea. To honor being here. Being now. To honor the privilege of my life. This week is all about remembering that.

For this first page, I used Tascha Parkinson’s lesson from Life Book 2014. The subject was about overcoming fears and she made a fish with popups. I decided to take her idea but instead of fears, I wrote my core desired feelings.
I made mine a lotus flower where each leaf is a desired feeling I have and my word of the year. The idea being that if I embrace them all, I will bloom. These feelings make me bloom. So each of the front petals lifts up and the words are underneath.
the text says: you get to choose how you feel
Because I do. Every day. every moment. I get to choose.
here are some shots that show it better:
from the side:
with the petals a bit more open:
note to self: your desired feelings help you be the best version of yourself.

This week’s page was much more fun to make after last week’s struggles. I did a mixture of drawing from life and drawing from pictures. For the left side, I drew this colorful pen Nathaniel brought home from a birthday party. When I was little, I had the exact same pen where you can use these lovely interchangeable tips. It was really fun to draw this.
The right side was a result of my dreaming about the seaside. I love a lot of different things but there’s nothing like water to calm me, ground me, and make me feel serene. I love this magical house that brings me peace just by looking at it.
And there we are. Here’s another week.

This week’s pick is one that makes me feel every one of my core desired feelings: the sea. I love the sea. I crave the sea. I am so grateful for the sea. There’s nothing as magical as the sound of the waves hitting the shore. I am so glad to be so close to the sea and I need to remember to visit the sea way more often.
here is a side look for the shimmer:
here’s to embracing serenity.

This was another page where I just went rogue. I wanted to do something different from Tam’s lesson. I didn’t know what but I wanted an angel. Not sure of why, I just began to draw so I could see where it would take me.
I ended up with this girl with golden wings (maybe it’s the same girl from last week?) crouching down and her wings fully open.
Text says: find your wings
a reminder to have courage. to open my wings fully and fly. It’s implied that we all have wings. We’re not getting new ones, we’re not making wings, we’re finding the ones we already have because we all already have them.
here’s a sideways look:
Note to Self: you already have all you need.

This week’s page is one of my least favorites. The left side was my attempt to draw the Tivo remote I’ve used and loved for so many years. It’s hard to do black and watercolor. Well, it’s hard for me. I don’t absolutely hate this one, but I am not in love with it either.
The right side, I really hate. It was for a Sketchbook Skool assignment. It was supposed to be a school memory. I remember this one time when I was at school and we had an eye exam. My eyesight was so bad that I thought this huge A was an E. So I tried to draw that but I do not like how it turned out. The thing with learning something new is that you fail more often than you succeed. And you have to keep going and have faith that things will get better. Or at least that’s what I tell myself.
And there we are. Here’s another week.

Even though I like lattes as much as the next person, at heart, I’m a tea person. A cup of tea and a blanket to curl up in is enough to make me feel centered and serene. Add a good book to the combination and I won’t move from my spot for hours.
So thankful for simple pleasures in life.
