This is the last of the collages inspired by Body Restoration. This lesson was about writing a letter to our old self and then cutting it up and burying it and then letting her go. I did this exercise and it was incredibly powerful for me so I wanted to make sure to remember it. The collage elements are by Melody Ross.
This page is a bit odd, I know. I took a bunch of the leftover paper I had from my sketching pad and glued them down. Then I used pan pastels to make the hearts. Then I added a bunch of rubons. A little paint on the edges and I was done. I know it’s simple but that’s what I seem to like. No matter how much I tried, I just didn’t want to add any more to it.
I made this page for Jenni Bowlin’s blog. It was so much fun to make and I tried not to overthink and just let myself go with the flow. I’ve been thinking a lot about knowing who you are and making a point to own it and be proud of it and not try to be something you’re not just to make someone else happy or to look good.
And another spread inspired by Body Restoration. All collage elements are by Melody Ross. I added tissue paper in the background. The text says “Make sure to do what feeds your soul and heart everyday.” Here’s what’s on my list: creating, walks outside, trying new things, reading, time with friends, serving others, learning new things, being grateful, reaching out, time alone, seeking light, hoping, believing, and working on dreams.” I think it’s crucial to take time every day to fill your soul. I try to take time to figure out what fills my soul.
This is another spread inspired by Body Restoration and once again the elements are by Melody Ross. It says “Be kind to everyone, you never know what they are going through.” It’s a simple page. But it helps me remember that when you’re looking at someone, you never know what’s going on inside them and how much they might be struggling. So, it’s best to just be as kind as you can be all the time. You never know; you might make someone’s day. Always, always be kind.
This page was my version of one of the Body Restoration pages. All the collage elements are by Melody Ross. It says “we all have light and dark thoughts, always choose the light. always.” The left side represents the dark, terrible thoughts we have sometimes. And the right side is the wonderful happy thoughts of who you really are. The trick (the goal) is to always focus on the white. Happy thoughts.
Ok here we go. This better count as a collage! Lots of tape and paper in the back, some doodling around the frame, a butterfly from the Body Restoration class, some more little doodads and the message. That’s it for this page. It says “Everything Changes. Let go of the need to control and just enjoy life.”
My attempt at being more collage-y. I added some paper on the background. The wings, the girl, some rubons, gold letters, and gold and white paint. A simple page but I do like it.
more next week. maybe then I can get even more collage-y.
Page six and I am still not anywhere near collage:
I had so many ideas for this page but it just wasn’t meant to be. The background is an actual map. Then I punched butterflies from the same map and glued them down. Then I tried to drip paint but it didn’t work the way I wanted to I just painted over the thing. But I’d already inked around the butterflies which is why the black ink spread a bit. I still like the way it turned out to be honest. Though not sure it qualifies as collage…
more next week. maybe then I can get more collage-y.
Lots of paint and random artsy papers in this one. I can’t stand the yellow paint in the middle but it is what it is. It feels a little more collage-y to me even though I know it’s still more art journal than collage.
I wanted to make a page that was more collage-y. I don’t think I succeeded. A bunch of tape, paper and rubons on this one. I wrote my journaling on the pink Studio Calico fabristrip but you can’t see it well on the photo.
So far, I can’t say this project is going as I had envisioned. But I know to give things time. More next week.
