Mind:
- I read: A bunch of articles but honestly none of them stick with me, and maybe that’s reason enough to stop reading? I can’t ever be sure what the right thing to do here is.
- I learned: I hope Calculus counts. A lot of my time has been going to the kids lately. Doing daily Calculus with David (and learning it all over myself) and doing Python with Nathaniel. I do want to pick up something new to learn but not sure what. I also signed up for another course with Karen Walrond because her courses always do right by me.
- I watched: Jake and I watched most of Stranger Things 2 last night. Since last weekend was a 3-day weekend for the kids, I used the opportunity to catch up on a lot of TV, too.
Body:
- Exercise: I exercised four times this week. On Friday the kids had no school and I had to go to teacher conferences so I had to miss my class.
- Monday: Body Pump
- Tuesday: Body Pump
- Wednesday: Pilates
- Thursday: Yoga
- Food: Food’s still a bit all over the place. I am still feeling wiped and lazy and not feeling in the mood to cook which means I end up making bad choices for food to eat. And while I am still pretty tired and whiny, here’s the truth: thanksgiving is coming and then I will be in Australia for a week. It will be hard enough to eat well on the plane or when I am there and if I don’t buckle down and find a way to make this work now, it will be that much harder then so it’s time. I really don’t want to put it off longer.
- Body Care: This is another area where I’ve fallen off a lot. I think it will help me to think of this more (and not less) as we go into the darker months of the year.
Soul:
- I rested: I slept better this week but not as well as when I eat well.
- I connected: I got to spend time with my friend Leslie and connected with my kids’ teachers.
- I journaled: I did not journal a word this week! But I did sign up for Karen’s journaling class and I am optimistic it will help me!
- I made art: Worked on both DD and OLW! Woot!
- Flowers: still filling my life and home with these.
Thinking that maybe the trick is not to go back to September but forward to some new normal.

This is assignment ten and it’s all about money. None of these photos make sense I know. Like Stephanie, I created a green theme to represent money and I kept all my thoughts on my journaling but looking at this makes me think of money and my thoughts so that’s all that matters.

This is assignment nine and it’s all about envy. Things I am jealous of (which is things I am craving in my life.) Many of mine are about how I want to look and feel. Connection/community/companionship. Adventure/wonder. Courage and belonging. Calmness. Talent, specifically artistic talent.
So there you go.

We always tend to put up our Christmas Tree earlier than average (and we always tend to keep it up longer than average, too.) But this year takes the cake, I believe. I usually can wait until we’re pretty close to Thanksgiving. This year, however, I was having a really hard time with Halloween and just finding myself more and more frustrated with it.
That coupled with the fact that my parents were visiting (and that my mom loves Christmas spirit almost as much as I do) gave me the idea that we were going to put up the tree the weekend before Halloween. Then while it still looked like Halloween outside, it could look like Christmas inside and I could be happy.
So that’s what we did.
And I am deeply happy. I love my tree. I love the lights. I love everything about it.

This is assignment eight, it’s all about how you use your time. Rituals and systems I have and how distribute my time vs my goals. My rituals are:
- writing the blog
- writing daily/weekly todos
- reading/listening to books
- exercising every weekday
- sitting outside in the backyard (harder now that it’s colder)
- cooking for the week
- making lunches+dinner
- preparing meals for me (smoothies in the morning)
- buying flowers
- weekly family photos
So those are the photos I put this week. Love looking at this one. Feels like home.

Weekly Intention: This week is not much different from many. I have a lot of meetings, I have a lot of work. I have to go to the kids’ school twice. I have a few social commitments and not a whole lot of time in general. But I also have a lot more time than I think. I waste a lot of in between time. My intention this week is to snap myself out of whatever’s going on. I want to do this with a few very specific actions:
- I want to go back to not eating between meals, no soda or caffeine, and meals full of veggies and protein.
- I want to journal every single day, even if for 15 minutes. I can do this. Just to take stock a bit.
- I want to make a list of plans for next year, some stock of where i am and where i’d like to go.
Things I want to get Done: Here’s the list for his week.
- Work: do round 3 of 2018 planning
- Work: finish + send mentoring form
- Work: stay on top of email
- Work: Take stock of SEA and make plans
- Personal: exercise at least 5 times at work.
- Personal: fix the eating issue!
- Personal: Journal daily.
- Personal: make 2018 plans iteration 1
- Personal: Continue with the new scrapping/storytelling system.
- Family: Attend SWI night
- Family: do coding+spelling with N
- Family: do calculus with D
- Family: take photos!
This month’s intention is: Moving on to November: Shine for You: This is your month. Take all the time you need. Shine all your light on yourself. Be kind, practice self-care. Think about the next year and what you want. Think about the rest of this year. You’ve got this. Perfect opportunity to start planning 2018.
Ways to Shine this week:
- One: Bold: Taking stock and making a harsh turn into eating well are my bold activities this week.
- Two: Open: Open to the possibility that I can totally turn things around this week.
- Three: Heal/Nourish: What are other ways I can nourish myself?
I am looking forward to: sitting down to make some 2018 plans.
This week’s challenges: I think taking the time i need for myself and not moving through the week mindlessly will be a challenge.
Top Goals:
- Work: finishing next step of 2018.
- Personal: exercise+food+journaling.
- Family: i want to work with my kids to think of some ideas… more on this next time.
I will focus on my core desires (bold, mindful, nourish, love) by: making plans for next year, thinking about ways in which i want to grow.
This week, I will say yes to: more family time.
This week, I will say no to: going through the days mindlessly.
I am worried that: i won’t exercise. i’ll eat poorly. i wont be able to take the time to make plans for 2018. i’ll let down everyone. i won’t rest. i won’t get my energy back. i will fall even more off the line i’m trying to walk. i will mess up at work.
This week, I want to remember: that I get to choose how things go. life is not happening to me, i get to choose.

This is assignment seven: body love. I will admit that the first time I got this assignment I couldn’t even read it because I was at such a tough place with my body image. But this time I was in a more open space and I did all the journaling. At the very end, she asks “What can I do to be more in love with my life right now?” And I loved this question. My board is all about that.
Body and self-care. Baths, massages, meditation, makeup, more smiling. Journaling, learning new things, photography. Adventures, camping. Reading, resting, connection. Flowers. Volunteering. Giving. Candles. Art. Gratitude journal. Color. Travel. Family time.
These are the things that make me fall in love with my life.

I’ve liked Jennifer Egan’s previous books but I wasn’t sure about Manhattan Beach especially since Historical Fiction and I find that genre to be hit or miss for me. But I really enjoyed this book. I read it all pretty much in one shot.
Sing, Unburied, Sing however was a different story. I started and stopped it many, many times. I wanted to not finish it but then felt like I should. After many weeks, I dragged myself through it and I am sorry that I did. It was devastating.
To heal myself, I moved on to The Pema Chodron Audio Collection. She is always what I need. Again and again.
I am now almost done with The Wisdom of Sundays which is also healing, thought provoking, and really good for me.
Here’s to more reading this week!

This is assignment six which was a direct response to yesterday’s board. I took every single expectation and turned it around, or found some way through it. I’ve since looked at these pages often to remind myself the perspective that helps me (as opposed to the one that’s not serving me.)

This is assignment five. This one was all about expectations. Expectations I have of others and myself. I blurred out the text here because it was all very personal but I can say that almost all of them were expectations I had of myself. Things I tell myself all the time. Ways in which I worry about disappointing others (or myself.) And they weigh me down so much. Which is why I put this photo of the girl in the middle because they make me feel exactly like that.

I am not a fan of Halloween. Scary doesn’t jive with me. I am not a fan of all the skeletons, all the super scary costumes, walking around in the dark. I can go on and on. Just not a fan.
Alas the boys feel otherwise. At least this year neither of them were superheros or scary costumes. Nathaniel was a Woopie Cushion. And David loves puns so he printed photos of a few rappers and then put candy all over his shirt so he can be “Candy Wrapper.”
And here went another Halloween. Thankfully it was safe and fun. Onwards to other less-scary holidays.
