Living Intentionally 2017 – 16

Weekly Intention: This is a week of easing back into things. I am taking Monday off so it will be a bit shorter than usual and while I have some commitments, I might just do the bare minimum this week and spend my time resting and recovering. I think I’d like to spend this week thinking about all that I learned last week at Life Restoration Camp. I’d like to take a few more courses, retake some of the ones I did, do some journaling and a bunch of thinking. I’d like to do the work to listen to myself. See where I am, see what’s possible from here. I’d also like to rest a lot. The camp was amazing but it was long days and I didn’t sleep well at night. My knees are hurting a lot and I am feeling exhausted.

Things I want to get Done:

  • I’d like to make sure I am done buying Nathaniel’s birthday presents.
  • Also all the little gift bags for his party.
  • I’d like to write a lot more of my shine cards (maybe a perfect match for the journaling)
  • Figure out a plan for our Sydney vacation
  • Book the kids’ summer camps
  • Deliver the books to the kids’ schools
  • Send newsletters
  • Check school payments

This month’s intention is:  Shine Quietly: It’s crucial to take time to reflect. Take this month to reflect on how things are going. Is there anything you need to adjust/change/drop or pick up. It’s ok to shift things. It’s also important to acknowledge what’s working. Take the time to shine some light inward and see what’s going on. Here’s to journaling to honor this intention.

Ways to Shine this week:

  • One: Bold: Accepting what is, is bold. Here’s to going where the peace is.
  • Two: Open: Open to thinking in new ways, changing perspective.
  • Three: Heal/Nourish: I plan to spend some quality soul nourishing time this week.

I am looking forward to: having tomorrow off.

This week’s challenges: Tuesday will be a challenge. I hope it is not. But it likely will be.

Top Goals:

  • Work: catching up, stepping back, moving forward.
  • Personal: journal, take a new perspective.
  • Family: hug, smile, love, repeat.

I will focus on my core desires (bold, mindful, nourish, love) by: being here. listening. working at it.

This week, I will say yes to: slowing down. taking the time I need.

This week, I will say no to: focusing on the wrong things.

I am worried that:  bad news will continue. i won’t get anything done and i won’t journal and my knees will continue to hurt. i will forget the books again. it will be a week of blah.

This week, I want to remember:  that it’s all up to me.

Weekly Reflection 2017 – 15

Three ways I shone this week: Well this week was all about shining. I did what’s hardest for me: I showed up, I kept showing up, and I stayed present. I am grateful for the gifts of this week.

Things I wanted to get Done: there was nothing on my todo list this week. I just wanted to be present. And I was. I spent very little time worrying about anything and spent almost all of my time being here,  now. I am very grateful for that.

I celebrate: time off. fulfilling a life dream. the joy my boys had this week.

I am grateful for: time to listen and be true and celebrate others.

I nourished myself by: so much incredible soul food and also incredible food food this week.

Reflecting on my worries: I didn’t let my family down. The camp was amazing, of course. Bad news might still continue, I won’t know for a while. Nothing went wrong. Spring break was amazing for the kids. They had the time of their lives.

I let go of: getting it right.

Core Desire Check-in (bold, mindful, nourish, love):

  • bold: showing up was bold. showing up again was even bolder.
  • mindful: i’ve been mindful of the pain and sorrow we each carry
  • nourish: this was a week of nourishing.
  • love: i love that my wonderful husband made the space to do this for me.

What made me laugh this week: all the wonderful ladies at the camp.
What I tolerated this week: not much honestly. except for not sleeping well.

My mood this week was: tired but grateful.
I forgive myself for: being me. making it harder than it has to be.
What I love right now: being home.

Here’s to a wonderful week sixteen!

Books I Read This Week 2017 – 15

I am not even sure why I picked up The Arrangement. I was sure I wouldn’t like it and I really didn’t need another fluffy book that was too clever for its own good. As it worked out, it was a much different story than I had thought and I read it all in one sitting. I felt it was a bit didactic in the end but I still enjoyed it.

I’ve been waiting for Laini Taylor’s new book for so so long. I’m a huge fan of her previous series and I knew I’d love Strange the Dreamer  because I love her writing so much. And it was no disappointment. I enjoyed every moment of this book. It wasn’t as magical as the previous only because that was the first book I’ve read in such a magical world. I can’t wait to read number two of this wonderful series.

I then listened to Solve for Happy which came at a very opportune time and was so very honest and interesting and full of exactly what I needed to hear when I needed to hear it. May I never have to experience such terrible loss.

Eggshells was a quirky, quick story. I enjoyed it quite a bit but it didn’t leave a huge impression, it was mostly an intermission story.

I then picked up  Setting Free the Kites which was wonderful. A coming of age story that was sad but touching and I am really glad I read it. Still thinking about it now.

I hadn’t read a Lisa See story in years. I think possibly ten years but for some reason I decided I wanted to read The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane and she was as wonderful as I remembered. This great story is about belonging amongst many other themes and I really loved it.

It was time for another Harriet Lerner so I read The Dance of Intimacy which was one of the few my library had. Shockingly, getting good at intimacy requires focusing on yourself and doing work on you. I know, you’re just as surprised as I am, aren’t you? Just kidding. Of course, the hard work is always with you.

And finally I just finished What It Means When a Man Falls from the Sky. This was another library recommendation. Short story collection. Some were wonderful and some were okay and I lost my focus while listening to others.

I still have 18 books sitting on my library bookshelf. Can’t wait to read some more! One of my favorite parts of traveling!

2017 Stories – 15 – The yard

I don’t have a story this week but I have this lovely photo as the weather finally got a bit warmer for a little while (it’s cold again now.) and we decided to take out the hammock and enjoy the warmish days. I love sitting in the yard and so do the kids. i love watching them sit together, laugh together and be together. may they have each other forever.

Living Intentionally 2017 – 15

Weekly Intention: This week is Spring Break. We are going on a bit of a crazy adventure. I will be spending most of my week in Life Restoration Camp while the boys will be having fun in nature and other adventures without me. We will have some wonderful time together at the beginning and end of the week and hopefully for breakfast in the mornings. I am scared, excited, and of course worried that something will go wrong. But my intention is to be fully present, make the most most of everything.

Things I want to get Done:

  • There’s nothing I want to do this week except be present.

I am hoping Life Restoration and this month’s OLW will be great opportunities to shine inward.

Ways to Shine this week:

  • One: Bold: Showing up is bold for me. This whole break will be bold.
  • Two: Open: Open to receiving all that i can from the camp and all the amazing people there.
  • Three: Heal/Nourish: I think this whole week is also about nourishing my soul.

I am looking forward to: the camp of course. and the time with my boys. and the time away.

This week’s challenges: showing up to the unknown. making sure the rest of my family is ok while i’m gone.

Top Goals:

  • Work: none.
  • Personal: listen, learn, be present.
  • Family: pay attention whenever i can.

I will focus on my core desires (bold, mindful, nourish, love) by: making the very best of this incredible opportunity.

This week, I will say yes to: the camp, being there. making connections.

This week, I will say no to: feeling guilty.

I am worried that: i will let down my family. the camp will not be good in some way. bad news will continue. something will go wrong. i will have ruined spring break. the kids will hate it. on and on.

This week, I want to remember:  that i am so lucky. that life is beautiful.
