Ways to Shine this week:
- One: Bold: Keep keeping the exercise, maybe try one more new thing.
- Two: Open: Open to the possibility that I can keep this going even when school starts.
- Three: Heal/Nourish: Really, actually journaling this week π
I am looking forward to: checking off some of the todos at work that i’ve been carrying for too long.

Top Goals:
- Work: finish off the docs i need for september.

This week, I will say no to: worrying about the future.
I am worried that: i won’t exercise. i’ll stop eating well. i will continue to be behind at work. that all the effort i am putting in won’t matter. that the kids will have a bad summer.

How I shone this week: Another good week. Things are really hectic at this moment but we are all making it work. Kids are doing their part. Jake’s really helping and I’m trying to do as much as I can in all areas. I am really proud of our family. I am really trying to take it one day at a time and do the best I can in every area. Some days are better than others, of course, but I keep showing up!
Things I wanted to get Done:
- Work: emails are still a mess. i’ve started the work on the documentation, and more for september and some for data collection. i haven’t sent q2 closing emails. but i am getting there.
- Personal: I didn’t do OLW july, still don’t feel ready. I want to do it next weekend if all goes well. i did exercise and eat clean. Didn’t schedule PT or taxes but did schedule allergy appointment.
- Family: Worked with both D and N on Math, supported him and Jake. yay!
I celebrate: showing up everyday. one day at a time. one good decision at a time.
I am grateful for: my incredibly supportive husband.
I nourished myself by: lots of water and downtime on the weekend.
Reflecting on my worries: i exercised. I continued to eat well. I caught up a bit more at work. i am closer to ready for the new cycle. i don’t have control on what matters. i am working to make time for me and my knees are just fine! and jake’s meeting went well!!
I let go of: email. i just can’t catch up.
Core Desire Check-in (bold, mindful, nourish, love):
- bold: an hour of body pump was bold.
- mindful: mindful of making things work one day at a time.
- nourish: making a list of new veggies and proteins to try.
- love: i love summer and the long days and the wide range of food options.
What made me laugh this week: My boys.
What I tolerated this week: still in pain of course and long work hours.
My mood this week was: harried.
I forgive myself for: taking my time with moving things forward on all grounds. things take time. progress is slow.
What I love right now: i love all these veggies and proteins i am eating. branching out.
Here’s to a lovely week 30. Here’s to keeping things going!

True to my word of not reading as much, I read fewer books this week. I started with the short story from Stories of Your Life and Others that the movie Arrival was based off of. I then tried to read some of the other stories but that wasn’t working out so I decided to put it down.
Then I read The End of Men which is the book Maggie’s Plan is based on. It was an okay read but I don’t think it’s going to leave a permanent imprint on me in any way.
I was looking forward to reading Spoonbenders but it was so hard to listen to the story, so I decided to switch to reading and it made it a thousand times more enjoyable. I loved this story and I am so glad I stuck with it.
And finally it was time for some Pema Chodron, so I grabbed Making Friends with Your Mind in my Overdrive queue and let myself bask in some of her wisdom and kindness. Love her.
It felt good to slow down and enjoy the books this week.

Mind:
- I read: I’m proud of myself this week, I’ve done less reading but spent more time moving and I didn’t read anything I really disliked. I abandoned three different books this week and still ended up finishing four.
- I learned: nothing new to report here.
- I watched: Jake and I watched an episode of The Billions yesterday but nothing at all outside of that.
Body:
- Exercise: I finally have some wonderful progress to report here. After all I wrote last week, I finally followed through on my goals and exercised every day this past week. After waking up at 5am on Monday and going to a local Barre3 place, I realized there probably were free classes at Google. And indeed there are hundreds of classes so after Monday, I drove to work everyday for a different exercise. This is also a fantastic way to try new things when I am stronger. Here’s what I did:
- Monday: Barre3 Class
- Tuesday: Vinyasa Yoga
- Wednesday: Vinyasa Yoga
- Thursday: gBarre (Google’s Barre class)
- Friday: Body Pump Express
- Saturday: 5K Walk with Nathaniel
- Sunday: I wan planning on a rest day but ended up doing a 3K walk at the end of the day.
- Food: I’ve also been doing a fantastic job here. We had a bad start on Sunday with the smoothies but then I ordered unflavored pea protein and I could totally drink it. So now I start my mornings with a Fab4 Smoothie and eat a ton of veggie bowls for lunch and dinner. I have been so incredibly full that I genuinely don’t snack (or have any desire to) between meals. Sometimes I’m so full by dinner that I have a smoothie or a small bowl instead. I still have 1 Coke Zero a day and sometimes a small square of chocolate. I find I don’t crave it or think of it as an indulgence because somehow I am genuinely not feeling deprived so far. We’ll see if things change but I am appreciating them so far. I started an instagram account where I keep track of everything I eat (for ideas later) and all the exercise I do.
- All the others: I’ve been to the dentist this week and also done a bunch of blood tests to see if I am all okay. I’m working on taking care of myself.
Soul:
- I rested: I’ve moved my sleep hours to be consistent 10pm-6am so that I set an alarm even on the weekend and don’t stay up past 10 even on the weekend. So far, so good. I don’t eat or drink anything past 7pm to see if it helps me sleep better and so far it’s going well.
- I connected: I didn’t go to one book club but I did go to another. In fact, I drove to work to exercise, drove all the way back home to shower and go to book club, and then drove right back to work for a meeting. That’s how much I wanted to make the time to connect.
- I journaled: I did some journaling but not as much as I would have liked. I’m still in catch-up mode at work so that’s not helping. I am planning to do some more this week and we’ll see if I can get into a groove there.
- I made art: No art this week either. Though I have some plans for July OLW.
So grateful for finally some progress this week. With a lot of gratitude to Ali. And hoping it sticks.

I’m a fan of Karen Walrond and have taken classes from her over the years. When she announced she was offering a class called Glow:The 21-day course on claiming your light I decided it was a sign I had to take it. My word for 2017 is Shine after all and actually Glow sounds even nicer but either way it was just another word for my word and so I decided universe was telling me to take it.
Sometimes when you take a class from someone you’ve already taken a class from, you see a lot repeated and you don’t get a lot of value the second time. I worried this might happen with Karen’s class. But I signed up anyway.
I am so glad I did.
This class profoundly changed my life. It asked the right questions at the right time. It made me realize I had patterns in my life that I sort of knew but wasn’t embracing.
I realized for example that I am always in a pattern of GROW : REFLECT : SHARE. As in I like to learn things, think about my learning and then share it with others by teaching or in other ways.
I also realized that the parts of my life I am so proud of are always when I live life on my own terms. I decide I will do something and I just do it. I am so proud of how often I’ve done this. How my life is so catered to what I want it to be. I am so proud of that, too. It also makes me feel strong, which I love. It allowed me to realize this about myself which I can remind myself every time I feel small and forget.
There’s so much more in this class. It’s wonderful, thoughtful and, for me, life changing.
