How I shone this week: I was saying how last week was tough but I must have not realized what was coming. This week has been much rougher, scarier and worrisome. I have been glued to CNN way more than I’d like. I am very frustrated and angry and sad all at once. I am making some changes and trying to figure out what I can do because staying silent is not an option. So… not much shining. I am in the meantime, trying to show up and be my best self.
Things I wanted to get Done:
- Work: maybe figure out a better system for email.
- Work: finalize matches, blog post, sites page.
- Work: be done with september goal.
- Work: create dashboard.
- Work: prep preso contents.
- Personal: exercise 6/7 days. one new exercise.
- Personal: continue eating clean. one new food.
- Personal: check in for taxes.
- Personal: Journal regularly.
- Personal: Do mapmaker #4
- Personal: prep food for Oregon
- Family: plan our trip to Oregon.
- Family: prep food for Oregon.
- Work: Woot caught up to email, somewhat. Finalized matches, didn’t do blog but did sites page. Sort of done with September. Didn’t do dashboard. Did preso.
- Personal: exercised 8 times and did one new one. ate clean. didn’t like the new food. didn’t do taxes, journaled some and didn’t do mapmaker 4 just yet. or did it partially. bought some food for Oregon but didn’t prep yet.
- Family: didn’t really plan oregon but I will asap.
I celebrate: 8 exercises this week. I am getting stronger.
I am grateful for: my manager and his kindness and encouragement.
I nourished myself by: spending some down time this week.
Reflecting on my worries: i exercised, i ate well, all is ok at work but I am still worried about school. we have one week left and none of us feel like it’s coming.
I let go of: getting things done in certain instances so I could choose to rest instead.
Core Desire Check-in (bold, mindful, nourish, love):
- bold: i did 3 classes in one day this week. i spoke my mind again in a meeting with a lot of executives. i decided to go on an adventure even though i am scared.
- mindful: mindful that i am feeling a lot of feelings still.
- nourish: trying to relax my mind and have faith that i will still be ok on the go
- love: i love going on adventures with my boys.
What made me laugh this week: not much this week, to be honest.
What I tolerated this week: all the awful news.
My mood this week was: sad. dismayed and frustrated.
I forgive myself for: getting distracted with news at work yet again.
What I love right now: i love all the exercise i am doing, i am so proud of myself.
Here’s to a better week 34.

I started the week with Spirit Junkie which had some parts I liked but overall Gabrielle Bernstein doesn’t seem to be doing it for me. I can’t connect with her message.
I then jumped to the very short The Little Things which was a bit better than meh but way too wordy for what he was saying. I agreed with his ideas, I just wish he had an editor.
I then read Rising Strong as a Spiritual Practice which I knew nothing about but I knew Brene would be worth it, and she so was! I didn’t want to put this one down at all. I wish she would come out with a book every month!
I then read Mrs. Fletcher which I knew I’d have mixed feelings about and I did. It had some interesting bits but also many bits I wasn’t crazy about.
I then read The Dying Game which was interesting, twisty and worthwhile. I really enjoyed it.
So grateful for books.

Mind:
- I read: I listened to Brene’s Sounds True lecture this week and it reminded me that I need more of that in my life. So I’ve downloaded some Tara Brach and intend to listen more.
- I learned: I’ve been doing Stephanie’s Map Maker class and the August OLW.
- I watched: only one hour of TV this week.
Body:
- Exercise: Woohooo, another week of exercising!! I’ve been trying to introduce a new class each week, this week i did two new ones on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Here’s what I did:
- Monday: Body Pump
- Tuesday: Body Pump
- Wednesday: Sculpt and Core (which was cardio!) and Mat Pilates
- Thursday: gBarre
- Friday: Body Pump Express and Mat Pilates
- Saturday&Sunday: resting all weekend
- Food: I’m also introducing a new food each week. This past week was brussel sprouts and buffalo meat.
- Veggies: butternut squash, spaghetti squash, eggplants, zucchini, beets, celery, cucumbers, broccoli rice, brussel sprouts, kale and spinach.
- Protein: chicken breasts, ground chicken, ground buffalo, and eggs.
- I am still not hungry between meals. Often I am not even hungry for dinner.
- No coffee for five weeks now. Not craving it.
- All the others: I’ve been flossing nightly, taking my vitamin C, and putting cream on. I bought a new face mask and some new earplugs because mine hurt when i wake up (because i sleep on my side). I’ve also bought a bunch of food-to-go items because we will be out of town next weekend.
Soul:
- I rested: Still sleeping strong. I’ve been waking up at 6 but this week i’ve woken up a bit more than I’d like. I’m hoping the new earplugs will help.
- I connected: Connected with a few new friends at work this week, and it was wonderful.
- I journaled: I journaled a bunch! woot!!
- I made art: I did my mapmaker homework!
So grateful for my progress, here are some more shots from instagram.

I posted this on my Instagram a week ago but I wanted to also preserve it here.
When I was younger my mom filled our house with flowers. I liked them but as I grew up I felt they were a waste of money since they die so quickly. But now all I want in my house is more flowers. Here’s some of what I bought this week. As it turns out they are the cheapest solution for feeling happy! And to make sure to honor my mom I got an orchid for my bathroom.
Nathaniel and I have been going to Trader Joe’s and the farmer’s market each week just to experiment with different flowers. I have yet to find anything that beats the ranunculus but we’ll keep looking!

Weekly Intention: This week will hopefully be quieter. We are planning to see the eclipse next week and are trying to see if we can go to Oregon so I want to make sure I do some of my work ahead of time since I won’t really have a weekend to catch up or rest.

This month’s intention is: August: Shine from the Inside Out: Ok you did the outside in and now it’s time to reflect again. The year is half over. How are you doing? What are you keeping on the inside? Also, it’s time to let others see the real you. Don’t be afraid. Shine. Good reminder to journal and to show up.
Ways to Shine this week:
- One: Bold: I think i want to think about what being bolder would look like in my life right now so this will be a journaling challenge this week.
- Two: Open: Open to new foods and eating well on the go.
- Three: Heal/Nourish: taking some serious down time this week.
I am looking forward to: our CSA box with new-to-me veggies!
This week’s challenges: making sure i can balance home and work.
Top Goals:
- Work: book tickets+hotel to Seattle, finish packet , do dashboard.
- Personal: exercise+food+journaling.
- Family: plan our trip. prep for school.
I will focus on my core desires (bold, mindful, nourish, love) by: being a bit more at home this week. i need grounding time.
This week, I will say yes to: balance.
This week, I will say no to: being unkind.
I am worried that: i won’t exercise. i’ll stop eating well. i will continue to be behind at work. something will go wrong somewhere 🙂 i am dropping the ball on something about school.
This week, I want to remember: that this is working. it’s all going well.

I started the week with Made For Love which I wasn’t sure about reading but once I started I found myself wanting to keep going. It was interesting in the end and I am glad I read it.
I then jumped to the very short Make Your Bed which was fantastic advice. I love books like this which are mostly really great graduation speeches. It wasn’t as profound as the David Foster Wallace one but that’s a diamond in the rough.
I then read The Turquoise Table which I knew nothing about but I loved. I wish I could do this in my neighborhood, too, but there’s so much holding me back here.
I then read Less which I kept wanting to put down but it said it was going to be super funny. It was okay but I didn’t ever connect to it much.
I then read Rabbit Cake which I’d been looking forward to for a while. It was nice but it also wasn’t amazing.
I am now reading After On which is a bit of a crazy ride, a bit too close to home but still an engaging read.
Here’s to more books next week!
