I know it’s weird but The Ocean at the End of the Lane was my first Neil Gaiman. And it was such a lovely one.
I read American Gods years and years ago.
Well tried to read it. And didn’t like it. And with that, I wrote off Neil Gaiman.
Until I listened to his graduation speech and then fell in love with him all over again.
So when I saw this short novel, I decided I would give him another chance. And I am so glad I did.
It’s a truly lovely lovely lovely story. Highly recommended.
I had the same reaction to ‘American Gods’. I did not make it through the book. I just could not get into it! Luckily it was a library book and I was not stuck with owning it. I was very surprised since every single person I know ADORES his work! Based on that experience I never read another of his books. But I might just have to try this one since you seemed to like it. However, I will still get it from the library … just in case. 🙂
